Has anyone here ever tried liver and onions? My grandma used to eat it for nostalgia's sake but never forced me to have any.

I eat beef liver weekly for health purposes. I enjoy the strong flavor and onions go well together with it.

Samefag: I'd recommend you try veal liver not beef liver. Veal is considered tastier. Beef liver is only if you want the health benefits or cheaper option.

Morally I disagree with veal. Should I add anything else to the liver? It's my understanding that it has a very strong taste, hence the onions. Mustard or horseradish, maybe?

I want to believe that that thing is healthy, that's why I eat it, my parents cook it, I eat it. luckily it's only once every 2 months or once a month, I don't really like that

Not that guy but I grew up eating regular liver. It has a distinct taste, but it's not a bad one. For the same reason most people don't eat unseasoned steak, the same is true with liver. It's quite heavy so onions make for a nice accompanyment.

As for veal vs beef, I usually go for beef because it's cheaper and not that different. You shouldn't feel bad about buying veal liver. That veal was killed as a kid either way and the liver often just goes to waste. I can understand not buying regular veal meat over beef, but for liver it's less of a deal.

There's the standard liver with onions, and there's the liver with onions and sour cream sauce. Liver can get pretty dry, tough and chewy if you overcook it, so I'd recommend either cooking it until it's pink on the inside, or going for the sauce version.

as a liver eater, id say veal liver is more forgiving when it comes to cooking because the connective tissues arent as tough. the flavor may be milder, but if you dont like liver, youre not gonna like mild liver

maybe it's because organs are all kind of distinctly weird compared to each other, then compared to muscle, but I don't want to eat organs even though i'm sure they're delicious and i'd like them

Why are you posting an overcooked steak with CANNED mushrooms and undercooked onion rings?
Why would you have such a terrible photograph saved even? Canned mushrooms are unacceptable. A restaurant would never serve that food.

You don't crave it because you don't need it. Liver is great once a month or so for nutrition
