Mountain Dew Zero isnt the best, but somehow their other zero sugar flavors are the shit. Wish they had more zero sugar versions of their current/old drinks, and wish they'd stop doing these seasonal releases and killing the drinks off. I miss Pitch Black zero so much bros bring it back already

Strongly disagree. Zeros have a thick mouthfeel and seem saltier. I don't know what science bullshit they're doing in labs to try and trick my tongue but it doesn't work. I like real sugar soda or old school Diet. That zero shit has never gotten it right. I find it so much worse than diet. Of course I grew up on diet. There are young people here who grew up with zero as a choice, that might be part of it. But I don't see it as an improvement myself.

This is my all-time fave. But I quit caffeine years ago and don't drink much besides water anymore.

Those are great. I hate any of those that are sweetened with any fake sweeteners though. I love them dry, but some brands make a sweet, 0 calorie version and those are fucking gross. The 1-liter clear bottles they have are always the sweet ones.

Your observations are correct. Diet Sodas are meant to be a less sweet, “diet” version while zeros are meant to be closer to the full sugar equivalent. The artificial sweeteners used are often the same, but since they’re 1000x sweeter than sugar the milligrams extra in the zero versions can change the sweetness significantly. This can also throw off the flavor profiles in other ways, like you noticing mouthfeel differences and saltiness profile.

I just get cheap store/off brand zero coke, and occasionally any regular or zero tonic. I like Dr Pepper too but don't drink it very often.
