I'd recommend a low carb to no carb diet. Anything natural and unprocessed is fair game, if you wanna feel better.

In order of tastiness:
1) Rotisserie chicken
2) Ground beef
3) Eggs
4) Tuna cans

Oh that sucks, my apologies. If it's that grim maybe fishing and hunting would help put healthy food on your table without breaking the bank.
Wild hog's are open season year round where I'm from, so I always have some hog meat in my freezer to cut down on grocery costs. I like to get fish from the beaches near me when I can as well.

I doubt stuff like onions, carrots, cauliflower, ect... are expensive where you live.
And then you have scanned stuff like tomatoes and beans. or dried stuff like beans, lentils, peas, ect...
Fresh produce is highly overrated anyway. Canned peaches are basically my goto fruit. Apples and pears are cheap too.
Frozen stuff is also very good and often just as cheap as "fresh" stuff with the added bonus that you don't even need to cut it.

You can feed yourself extremely healthy for next to nothing. Most people (Americans) just straight up don't know how/are too lazy/are too nutritionally illiterate to prepare food. All my coworkers do is complain about how expensive food is then they just go to the store and shop like an idiot.

Healthy carbs (all under $1 per 2000 calories):
- Oatmeal
- Barley
- Rice
- Lentils
- Chickpeas
- Basically any dried legumes
- Potato's
- Tortillas

Meats (healthier options, try to eat mostly lean meats to be healthy although that doesn't need to be a hard rule for all meals) :
- Pork Tenderloin (on sale for CHEAP sometimes)
- Chicken thighs
- Ground chicken (bulk from meat processor under $2.50/lb)
- Ground Turkey (Also bulk)
- Eggs (cheap again now especially if you're not in a city)
- Beef Liver

Veggies (fresh)
- Carrots
- Celery
- Broccoli
- Green Beans
- Cabbage
- Onions

Canned stuff:
- Canned Corn
- Canned Fruit
- Canned Beans
- Canned anything

Other stuff:
- Milk
- Bullion Cubes
- Garlic
- Cheap spices from Walmart
- Tomato Paste
- Lemon Juice
- Bread
- Off Brand Peanut Butter
- Peanuts

You can make fucking amazing food with all this stuff and it costs next to nothing. Eating a relatively complex carb+relatively lean meat+fruits/veggies is just about the healthiest thing you can eat and it costs next to nothing. People are just fucking dumb. Cook them into a stew, cook them into a soup, serve them on a plate. So many ways to make this shit taste good.

Make it all in large quantities so you can eat for 3 - 4 days off just one session of cooking.

This. Beans & lentils are your friends.

Anytime I'm feeling like dookie from eating crap, I make sure to eat some rice & beans or lentil soup, and I instantly start feeling better. Legumes and whole grains are literally gifts from God, probably the ideal food we're all supposed to be eating every day. They heal your soul, mind and body.

white rice is devoid of nutrients and basically sugar. brown rice is full of heavy metals. red meat causes cancer. potatoes are also basically sugar and no the potassium doesn't make fried potatoes healthy. the only way to make a potato even remotely healthy is to refrigerate it and eat it later which is nonsense when you could just eat something else.

you'd have to consciously intersperse bites of carbs with bites of fibrous vegetables for it to have an impact and anyone asking for "reasonably healthy" food isn't looking to put any real effort into their lifestyle. It's significantly easier and more beneficial to just eat food that has fiber in it than to sideload fiber into your diet to compensate for bad choices.

Lean meat, cruciferous vegetables, fatty fish twice a week, whole grains, unsaturated fat. Whole fruits. Nuts. Avoid sugar if you have a family history of diabetes.

Check blood pressure at least once a week first thing in the morning and before bed at night. It's not a bad idea to check your A1C and fasting blood sugar once a year either if your doctor doesn't. They sell a1c test kits online or at department stores. The goal being to prevent high blood pressure or diabetes. Exercise will also make you feel much better than any dietary change ever will.

Some smaller bits of info when it comes to avoiding feeling like shit from your food
>Goat cheese is fairly easy to find (costco has it cheapest in a 2 pack) and overall less inflammatory to many people compared to cheese made from cow dairy in the US. Sheep cheese is also good but not as common or higher priced
>Organic options for your grain staples like wheat/rice/oatmeal is the best 'better safe than sorry' buy and less stressful on people's digestion. I don't think meat/eggs, common veg, and fruit matter as much to buy organic (but it's not a bad option to get organic frozen veg or frozen berries for cost effectiveness). The most premium grain option is organic wheat from a euro country like Italy, costco has a cheap option with a large 6 pack of organic imported pasta made in Italy
>omega 3s matter when it comes to overall better mood, get wild caught salmon or sardines when you can in whatever form
>The cleanest water you can get is important if you live in the US, if you can afford a reverse osmosis filter. Chlorine acts harshly on people's gut bacteria and healthy gut bacteria helps out everything else in your body
This may sound like a costco intern post but they have a few organic products that are simply convenient and at lower costs than other places.

cook from scratch
>but what do I cook?
Any fresh or frozen vegetables, non-processed meat, eggs, dairy, bulk bags of rice/potatoes/pasta/beans. Make sloppa bowls and season to taste. Move on to actual recipes if you can stick to it.
Good quality sausages when they're cheap every once in a while can make a delicious sauce for pasta.
Non-sweetened yogurt with in-season fruits and some granola if you're feeling lazy, use a drizzle of honey to sweeten it if needed.
Drink plenty of water instead of soda and beer. Coffee and tea are ok too. Drink sparkling water if you need the fizz.

Also exercise, literally anything you can do is better than nothing. Take walks, do bodyweight squats while watching anime/youtube, push-ups, sit-ups, lift something. Even if you don't do a proper gym routine, simply moving regularly helps a lot.

Put a piece of chicken or beef in the freezer for an hour or two and then slice it real thin and marinade it with shaoxing wine and other shit. Cook it. Eat it together. Borscht was made by loving eastern european housewives to feed their alcoholic husbands and 7 children (alcoholics too), made with love, care and plenty of protein, veg and water so these fuckers wouldn’t die of malnutrition. Chicken bone in thighs or drumsticks, pork tenderloin, carrots, parsnips, parsley, celery, peppers, potatoes, all chopped in small cubes, boiled in the same water then soured at the end with lemon juice.
