Are picky eaters antisocial, narcissistic or actual psychopaths? I've known three of them, and they will in the most rude manner you can possibly imagine, refuse FREE food handed to them by family members or in-laws etc.
>EWWW I DON'T EAT THOSE I DONT LIKE THAT!!!!!!!
It disgusts me to no end honestly.

It is said that in many cases, autistic people have problems with their sense of taste.
They also lack social skills, such as "I don't like this food, but I should eat it in this situation."

Picky eaters seem to be autistic freaks. It's always about ''muh texture.'' They hate when a food isn't clearly defined in a box with as few ingredients as possible. A burger needs to be just a bun, the meat and cheese. Add anything else and it's ''confusing.''
They hate it when they bite into a food expecting one thing but get a different thing that surprises them. It's why their go-to foods are chicken tendies and pizza with clearly visible and minimal ingredients.
They hate mushrooms because the texture is confusing. They hate tomatoes because a food can't be both crunchy and watery, it has to be one or the other.

Autistic kids have the luxury of telling their parents "I will only eat tendies and candy" and the parents will just go with it cuz muh autism. It's what happened to me.

Then when they grow up they are tastelets that eat like babies.

Autistic people aren't special. Everyone gets weirded out by the smells and tastes of unfamiliar foods. But if in childhood you are never taught how to expand your palate you just grow up to be a manchild tastelet.

Im an autist and this shit happened to me. Expecting everyone else to bend their world around your needs just becomes something you do when you go through childhood with everyone else bending their world to suit your needs.

In my 20s I decided to grow the fuck up and try new goods and got over it and I have a seething hatred of people who don't do the same and just blame autism. You take any non autistic kid and put them in the same environment where you never wean them off the teat of tendies and Mac n cheese they will also grow up with the palate of a 9year old.

I publicly pretend to be a vegan because it's a socially acceptable way to be a picky eater but privately I eat meat and and animal products. I just don't like most meat or the way other people cook it and it's way easier to say "I'm vegan" than saying "No, I don't want a hamburger because I hate ground beef". I suppose the behavior I engage in regarding my picky eating is antisocial, narcissistic, and manipulative. Please feel sorry for me for being uch a pathetic creature :(

I don't hate them. My own palate is very broad but they're usually the product of eating disorders or parental force feeding that give a lifelong dislike of food.

If you let them experiment at their own pace they'll usually improve. Otherwise their health and social problems are enough punishment

In my experience people who really get their panties in a wad about someone else not being a living garbage disposal are some combination of the following: deathfat hamplanets, poorfags, ex military, one of five siblings, latchkey kids, alcoholics, empty nest syndrome boomers, temporarily embarrassed iron chefs with a new cookbook, teenagers, autistic people that think someone not liking what they like is a personal insult. The last one is extremely common on 4chan because the IQs are very low and the mental illness is very high, so the nuance isn't there to understand that just because I personally don't like something doesn't mean I think it's wrong for you to enjoy that thing. This thread and the millions like it posted each day are a prime example.

Picky eaters are fine as long as they don't push their preferences on others, chastise others for eating things or get mad when their odd preferences are not catered for in generic settings.
What sets people off is that some picky eaters act like their taste palate is the only correct one, when taste is subjective.
All /ck threads that are about some food being disgusting should be banned because they all turn in to the same thread.

Many vegetables are really healthy, they taste delicious lightly blanched or roasted with some good olive oil. What's bad smelling or tasting about that?

the most common food aversion i notice people have that i completely don't understand is mushrooms. i just don't get it. mushrooms are delicious. i can eat the fuckers raw. i eat them almost every day. baked or seared sliced, seasoned with oil and salt. pairs with just about any meat, even seafood. blends into sauces well. etc. they're too versatile to hate.

lately i always buy a pound of crimini mushrooms when i'm at the store. they're always fully stocked, never overpicked, because generally people don't buy them. i can get a bag of some real big fuckers if i want. picrel is my current shroom stash.

can someone explain their hate? what's so wrong with mushrooms?

Mushrooms are mold that suck up and hold onto death. They have a ring of black decayed dead things around the inside of them. They have gills, which are a horrific texture. It's pretty easy to see why a lot of people are averse to them. They also tend to be cooked in a way that makes them slimy which is a texture that most people are averse to as well.

I used to be a very picky eater when I was a kid. Used to meticulously separate my carrots and greens from meat stews because the vegetables were very bitter. I remember one day watching my mom crunch on some green bell peppers and the way she ate it and seemed to enjoy it made me want to enjoy vegetables the same way too so I forced myself to eat all of my vegetables first from then on

I don't have a problem with picky eaters, I think like 3 yrs ago or so I used to look down on them too but I did a cleanse after a health scare and didn't realize I had a bunch of worms/mold/candida in me that has altered my taste buds (and it's probably been like this since I was a kid). After being sick for a while, I had a salad for the first time in weeks after the cleanse and I had no idea vegetables were supposed to just taste neutral/sweet even. Never got the hype with carrots as a kid but when I bit the carrot for the first time I finally understood why people loved them. They used to taste awful but I highly suspect it was parasites altering my taste perception, but they were sweet and delicious. so I can't say that I really judge these people either anymore. Like if someone doesn't want to eat certain things that badly then there's probably a reason (doesnt have to be a 'good' reason for you but why does that matter honestly) but I do question what kind of conscience it takes for a person that are willing to have their families/friends/loved ones turn down cool restaurants to have lame group meals. like are they actually okay with this? I personally wouldnt be able to take it, seeing the look of disappointment in their faces. Id want us all to have a delicious meal together and enjoy it and I'd want to enjoy it with them. I just don't really understand people that are okay with that.

No. They're stupid twats who eat like fat cunts. I had a varied palate as a kid as did my wife and as does my son and I think it's specifically because she and I do as our parents did: the kids eat what the grown ups eat, but in smaller portions. Me and my friend group have actually done similar before - we ordered a tomato and pineapple along with our normal pepperoni and mushroom and the 3 of us that tried it thought it was fine, then everyone else at least had a bite, and it was fun. You don't have to have your ideal every single time. It's fun to cycle through and let whoever pick whatever so long as it's not something everyone knows will be inedible every time.

Besides some psychological issues, (wtf is itt obsession with autism?) picky eats are created from parents not feeding a variety of foods to their kids.

In finland theres school lunches that are free that likely alleviate part of that. You are forced to see government approved variety of foods and acting differently from rest of the kids doesn't give you points, no ones going to serve you chicken tendies if you dont like something. At most they eat some small amount and go to buy shit from a store/fast food joint they like which is retarded but people are driven by the pleasure seeking mechanisms.

My parents didnt cook everything well. I noticed a lot of veggies taste great, just you need to prepare them competently which my parents didnt manage. If your idea of feeding broccoli to kids is boiling it in water for 10 mins and draining it you have yourself to blame.
All the foods kids will leave behind on a plate can be cooked to be more appealing and given enough repetition and testing them out kids will start finishing mushrooms and whatnot. Making the pieces super tiny so they're not visible is a popular tactic.

Like if youre given the ingredients and they fail to make it edible does the process of them being involved in cooking matter to them?

That's pretty accurate to my upbringing and how I raise my kid. I mentioned this in the last picky eater thread that as a baby, he refused broccoli and it's exactly for the reason you mentioned: in order to feed it to an infant, it has to be steamed/boiled to fuck and back then pureed. We started mixing it with pureed cauliflower in a 1:5 ratio brocc:cauli and he'd eat it. He'd make faces at it the whole time but he'd eat it. Then we slowly increased the ratio to get him used to broccoli. He still doesn't like overcooked broccoli but who does?
When it comes to mushrooms, it's weird. As a younger kid, he liked them but around five years old, he decided he didn't, but only the common variety and its various forms (champignons/button, crimini and portobello; he'll eat portobello if kept whole, marinated and cooked over open flame like a steak). He'll still eat oyster mushroom, king oyster mushroom, seafood mushroom (and even I don't like those) and every other kind of mushroom we've introduced him to but common mushroom is a no-go unless I cook it a very specific way: mushroom cheesesteak. I slice them super thinly, saute them in oil with thinly sliced onion until they cast off every last bit of their moisture then cook them until they've taken on some colour. Finally, add cheese and stuff into a bread roll, no meat required (though they're good with meat, too, of course). He likes that.

Your family and close friends should know you don't like them, or at least not be offended if you don't take any. It's not rude and it's less wasteful than forcing yourself to eat them as it means there are more for the people who do like them to enjoy. If you're at a restaurant you can order something else. There is no good reason to eat foods you know you don't like.
>Having preferences is fine. Hating all vegetables is not.

My mother has an extremely strong sense of taste which makes spicy foods make her mouth feel like it's on fire. She can't tolerate them because they are just too strong for her. I didn't grow up with brussels sprouts. Not terribly common in Asia. I had to move to the US to try them. Bought them on a whim at a supermarket because they were on sale and liked when I cooked them (first time was quartered and stirfried with garlic as a side dish to something I've long since forgotten) so I bought a bag of frozen ones to keep around for easy cooking and hated them. Actually, I bought a box of frozen sprouts in butter sauce recently, too, and I still don't care for frozen ones. My wife never had them before I introduced them to her. My brother and his wife, who lives a few towns over the state border, don't cook them. I can't imagine any situation where a friend would cook me sprouts. I'm just saying that if they're served, I'll eat them. There are very few things I dislike enough to reject outright.
>Nobody over 8 years old unilaterally hates all vegetables
I personally know a few people who do, actually. Well, one weirdly likes broccoli and spinach but no other vegetables at all. The others don't eat any vegetables whatsoever and one has told me at length more than once his undying hatred of produce. He eats nothing but burgers, cheesesteak (no onions), eggs, potato and white bread. I have no idea how he doesn't have scurvy. He doesn't even like fruit flavoured candies.

In finland this is the most common way to consume liver. A premade casserole with liver, rice, raisins, a lot of sweetness.

You eat it with lingonberry jam to balance the flavors and its great.

I knew one kid with some undiagnosed issue who wouldn't eat anything without ketchup on it, even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He also stole a car when he was 11.
He was adopted and I wonder if his parents ever looked into if the agency took returns for damaged goods.

eggplant I've only ever seen used as a substitute for where meat should go in a dish and it doesn't do as good a job at that as say tofu
The seafood ones either gross me out viscerally or are too chewy
Kelp is just pure slime
Sweet potatoes I just don't want something with the texture of a potato that taste's like candy. say you make fries with them, I don't want french fries that taste like candy
Artichoke has a super strong taste that I dislike

eggplant I've used in like a vegetable side dishes, its sliced & seared on a pan or cubed or sliced and yeah. Veggie side. Gets soggy easily but it is what it is, its fine.
I dont have experiences of getting sick from seafood so theres no negative connotation there. My parents introduced shrimp to me in pizza. Prawns go great in pasta. Scallops are great when seared to proper donenness.
I only used seaweed in sushi form. Tastes like the sea but its fine.
Sweet potatoes make a pretty good casserole side, those are often sweet anyway. Searing them on a pan works well.
Never tried artichoke. It seems weirdly wasteful plant. I see people rec it for pizza and some pro chef videos sometimes use it for luxury dishes.

>Artichoke has a super strong taste that I dislike
Depends on the variety. I'm from Southern Italy. We've got literally dozens and dozens of artichoke types but I live in America now where I mostly see round ones and very, very rarely, the ones I prefer: spikey, long purple ones. Big round ones are much milder so you might actually like those.
And to put a fine point on the love of artichoke back home, I know several different ways of preparing different artichoke varieties and there are even liquors and wines made from them, the name of the most famous of which, Cynar, literally just means artichoke in local dialect.
In America, all anyone does with artichoke is steam it and scrape the leaves or artichoke dip. And they usually make the dip from frozen, canned or jarred ones seldom fresh

If you don't like x, y and z, that's fine. If you need to be disruptive because you don't like x, y and z and q and r and f and I and L and m and j, k, n, o, p, you're a picky cunt

you can tell the picky eaters in this thread because they throw out nonsense like
>uh I dont want to eat ur toenail, cheese and avocado pizza OK!!!!
when they actually look at something as basic as butter chicken and say it's too spicy or they won't eat meat that has any resemblance to an animal or won't eat vegetables that aren't inside a sauce

Things taste different for other people
It's retarded to say "but how can they not like it it's so delicious" when it literally isn't delicious for them, something you find delectable can make someone else want to vomit from the smell
You should just let people avoid eating food that tastes horrific to them without making fun or pretending you don't understand just because that ingredient tastes good to YOU personally

Me. My mother used to get exasperated at me for not liking beef as a kid. I still ate it except the fat but I didn't like it. I like beef okay now and enjoy the fat but I still prefer pork. I also didn't like organs and still don't but I'll eat them from time to time and, weirdly, occasionally get pangs for liver. I'll buy it, eat it and wince the entire time because I don't like liver and I have no idea why my body/brain is telling me to eat liver. Same with kidneys (I get the two together, in a soup).
That's about it.
>>21482783
I don't think that's the case at all, though. I'm the guy with the kid who wouldn't eat broccoli as a baby. It's not about luck. It's about not letting a literal child make decisions. He likes fruit and veg and good stuff because we didn't let his babytongue dictate to us that he should have sweets and nuggets all the time.
