Hey /ck/, I've been trying to cut back on how much over processed junk I consume, however, I am hopelessly addicted to soda. I was wondering if making my own soda at home is possible, and if so what I would need to do it?

Yes it is. You need a soda stream and syrup. Plus CO2 cartridges. This will allow you to produce soda at home. They sell knock off soda syrup for the system if you are too lazy to make it.

You can make the syrup yourself, there is a YT channel that specializes in this, just watch that. You need essential oils, sugar, spices, and citrus. Select based on what you want to make.

Oh and if you want caffeine or some shit, they do have pills/powder for that.

If you can't drink completely flat warm soda you're addicted to the fizz and the flavoring. The sugar can be removed. Try a good unsweetened flavored seltzer with a handful of crushed berries, orange, or lemon/lime pulped into it. It's not bad

honestly wouldn't it be easier to brew your own iced tea? you control how much sugar goes in, what type, if any at all
there's plenty of things you can steep that add flavor without needing sugar.

What are you addicted to? Sparkling water or sugar water?
Carbon dioxide is not addictive so I assume sugar water. Start by just not buying this shit, then you won't have it and will just drink water. It's easy.

Yes, it's actually pretty easy desu. Don't waste your money on sodastram crap, make a ginger bug so you can make naturally fermented drinks. Get a couple tablespoons of chopped ginger and sugar, mix in 2 cups of water. Add 1 teaspoon of chopped ginger and sugar each day, leaving at room temp. After 5 days or so it'll be fizzy. You use this to kickstart fermentation in your drinks.

Start with ginger beer, make a wort from a bunch of chopped ginger, 4 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar, simmer it for 30 min. Let the wort cool and pour it into a gallon jug, with juice of 1 lemon and 1 cup strained ginger bug. After 48 hours strain and funnel into flip top bottles, and let ferment another 24 to 48 hours at room temp. Wa la, you've got naturally fermented probiotic soda. You can expirement with all kinds of flavors, I made a really good raspberry soda recently.

You could use regular bakers yeast if you want, but why would you do that when a ginger bug is basically free?

If you need sugar so badly then balance it out with exercise. Why not just take the opportunity to add something positive to your routine instead of doing something that feels like abstinence? Just keep the macrosplit clean and consume only soda before a workout or something. Go on a run.

Source: I get the $1 medium soda at taco bell for their happy hour promotion and I drink a gallon of baja blast before I head to the gym and run until it closes in the late afternoon (lame ass gym)

I like baja blast solely because of the color

Making Soda at home is a fucking pain in the ass, see >>21476578
I recommend picrel for a soda fix. Tastes like pop, no bitter aftertaste, 0 calories. Might give you cancer but who gives a fuck. Walmart sells it in bottles and in cans. It's branded Clear Canadian if you're a leaf.

At some point though I gave up even on this and I have regressed back to fucking flavored water. But I still don't want shitloads of sugar, so I get "Dole Lemonade Variety Pack Powder Mix". 0 Calories, actually has a *few* nutrients in it, not expensive as fuck. I just grab 4 packets and snip them open and mix with a 1 liter pitcher of water like it's kool-aid.

I still have the clear american around but don't drink it as much. Too acidic, need more water. Instead I drink Celsius 12 oz energy drinks for my caffeine fix, same or more caffeine as a monster and 2-3 bucks cheaper for a 12 pack. Obviously 12 oz is less than the 16oz in a 'normal' tall can but I consider that a benefit.

Regular bakers yeast will taste like shit
Wine yeast is not that much more expensive and you need a small amount anyways
"ginger bug" will cost you 100x in ginger and time spent
