>>21502564you have to understand Euros never left the mediaeval serf mindset. to them, the State is the successor to their feudal lord. they instinctively think the State, like the Lords of old, have a responsibility to care for and provide for the peasantry. The concept of self-sufficiency is utterly alien to Old Worlders because they have never existed in a society where there wasn't an authority figure looming over them at all times.
It's why their political movements are all about creating a "fair authority figure", and why they champion stuff like 'dictatorship of the 99%'. to them, Democracy was a movement to make it so the serfs could select their Lord rather than have the Lord appointed for them. It's also why they have such viscerally negative reactions to Americans calling for the reduction of government power. in their minds, they see it as "the peasantry throwing away their right to select their Lord and going back to Lords decreeing themselves absolute". They truly and genuinely cannot comprehend the idea of making decisions and life choices for yourself. Whenever they say "slave to corporations" as an insult, it's a self-report on how they view the world and the intersection of authority and the individual.
