Any home roasters have a recommendation for an inexpensive roaster? I would want to just have it controlled with a timer switch with some sort of mechanism in the timer to release it to turn it off early.
I'm currently trouble shooting some locally grown coffee and I've concluded that medium roast might be to light for my taste, I get weak coffee out of the press and paint thinner out of a moka pot.

Bought this Stagg knockoff ~3 weeks ago. It’s been good so far. No real complaints beside the manual being very ESL. The kettle wobbles a bit on the dock

An anon asked me to test if boiling at the max line would make the water come out of the air hole and surprisingly it did not. I even tested a little bit above the max line and it still did not. Someone with an authentic Stagg said it did for him so I guess the knockoff won in that regard

I wish it would have a slower max pouring rate, I tested on the first day and IIRC it’s around 30 g/sec. But whatever.

Don't get me wrong I'm all about saving money when I can, but I stand very strong by the "buy one cry once" philosophy. I've seen a lot of people complaining about their Stagg kettle being a piece of shit. Of course it could be user error, but I don't want to take my chances. I bought one of the cheaper kettles that is easy to repair. No computer bullshit inside.

My cup tastes great by the way.

Mine's been going strong since 2019. Not a hitch. Had to pop the knob off once and clean under it but I wouldn't call that a flaw. I'm also the anon who mentioned the stagg "overboiling". I'd rather the vent holes be slightly restrictive, keep steam in, and sputter after I ignore it for a few minutes vs slightly wider and piss steam out.

>The Brewista Artisan 0.6L has a gooseneck with an inner opening diameter of 5.5 mm at the exit spout, which results in a maximum flow rate of about 24 g/s. This is a bit more than I would like, as I rarely ever need to pour that fast, and this makes it a bit harder to pour consistently at only 20% of the maximum flow rate. I asked someone on Instagram who has a Fellow Stagg EKG 0.6L to measure its maximum flow rate, and it is apparently a bit lower, at 20 g/s. This is quite nice, and adds another reason why I would have chosen the latter kettle if I was to do this again.

i was close to pulling the trigger on a new dripper while i was away but chickened out at the last second
at first it was the loveramics Dripper Gift Set (2021 Limited Edition) but then i heard that the jug it comes with is bad/doesnt swirl well so i didnt buy it
and then i looked at some origami cones but didnt love the finish on most of them/were sold out on the ones i did like
also yes, still love my hg1p, honestly even more so now than when i first got it.
i stopped thinking about its performance while using it recently but on the weekend i was using it and thought "wow this is so easy to use, like i just turn the handle and it just grinds like nothing is even in there"
i wanted to keep using it so i had 3 coffee's that day.
it doesnt hitch or stall or jam, just perfectly smooth.
i do wonder how the gear changer feels on the weber tho.

it has a "weaker" motor so it uses less power and grinds slower.
so its twice as slow but twice as energy efficient.

you may be right on the rest but i didnt rewatch the whole video in my first post and im not going to rewatch now to fact check the rest
i wrote vs3 because that what i remembered being the best of the lot the last time i did fully watch the video which was like 6 months ago.

Anon what matters is how much energy it uses, power is just how quickly it uses said energy. So for example if one device does the task in 10 seconds and draws 100W during that time, it uses the same amount of energy as a device that draws 50W but takes 20 seconds. They both ultimately used 1000 Ws of energy (or about 0.28 Wh if you want a more standard unit). Point is, you're paying the same energy bill for both.

Anonymous No.21502183 >>21502192

I mean sure but you'd have to go pretty high to start reaching dangerous wattage. Like basically all wall outlets could handle 1000W.
Anonymous No.21502192 >>21502198 >>21502286
>>21502183
>1000W.
but in a kitchen especially a small one you could expect to find multiple appliances plugged in and being used at the same time
for 1 example you could have 1 plug supplying a flair 58 doing its preheat, a kettle boiling water and a grinder grinding coffee and a grinder even if its for a short time could reasonably spike the power in a dangerous way.
or it could overload a multiplug.
you could also have bad wiring in the kitchen and have a fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer all going at the same time(dishwasher washing dishes you put in the sink to soak overnight, washer and dryer going to do laundry before work) and then turn on the grinder and just go over the limit and short it.
this would be especially common in europe where the washer and dryer are often in the kitchen and would be on the same circuit. and also more common in europe would be bad/old wiring.
Anonymous No.21502198 >>21502205
>>21502192
If you're going to leave the realm of the theoretical and start talking practical, none of the grinders come anywhere near 1000W, and the difference between the lowest and highest power consumption is like 100W, it's extremely unlikely that one device would short out your grid but the other wouldn't.

what does this have to do with anything i said?
you have a max power draw on each circuit in your home
if a circuit is already at 99% capacity and you use a device even for 1 second that makes it go over 100% then its going to trip
but if you use a device that only makes it go to 100% for 10 seconds then it wont trip
a grinder might not be a lot but it all adds up

> FAQ

>> What does this mean?

The amount of karma (points) on your comment and Reddit account has decreased by one.

>> Why did you do this?

There are several reasons I may deem a comment to be unworthy of positive or neutral karma. These include, but are not limited to:

β€’ Rudeness towards other Redditors, β€’ Spreading incorrect information, β€’ Sarcasm not correctly flagged with a /s.

>> Am I banned from the Reddit?

No - not yet. But you should refrain from making comments like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downvote, which may put your commenting and posting privileges in jeopardy.

>> I don't believe my comment deserved a downvote. Can you un-downvote it?

Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Reddit PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.

>> How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

Accept the downvote and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Reddit.com. I will continue to issue downvotes until you improve your conduct. Remember: Reddit is privilege, not a right.

Yes. There will be one or two different local roasters at your warehouse. Look for a recent roast date. I can get a 2lb bag of Two Brothers Sweet Home Chicago blend for $19 (it used to be less). The local roasts tend to be fairly uncontroversial and mild. it's what I serve other household members and guests who might not like funkier coffees I enjoy. Also don't be shy about returning something you didn't like; as long as you only used a small amount it's perfectly fine and Costco will refund you fully.

I go for 2:1 for my bloom, and my coffee still off-gasses until I hit ~350ml in

My workflow has the kettle heating first, any reason why you wait? I also use unbleached filters, and I usually finish at 6min. I also heat my water to 205F/96C

part of the reason the aeropress has sold so many units is the portability and being heavier than it is would affect that
