Why are "family" and "fresh" on quotation marks?

So someone can't get butthurt for it saying "Yourself" as I'm sure anyone at the discount baked section would be eating it, and "fresh" I would assume is for the store to say it was "fresh baked" at some point in it's process. Or whoever their marketing agent is really doesn't get quotation marks very well.

There used to be an entire website for Unnecessary Quotes, it was fucking hilarious. I had it bookmarked on an old computer.

People would take pictures of all the dumbest office signs and restaurant print outs with the worst offenders.

You see, the quotes are like saying "it's not really the thing". So if a sign said On Sale Today, "Real" Doughnuts, the joke is "well, are they not real or what?"

It might be that the system they use for sign printing is ancient and it can't do bold, italics, or other things to call attention to certain words so they're abusing quotation marks instead. The red words and the cowboy likely are on the sign they get from a printing company in bulk but the black text is printed in-store for whatever promotion they have going on at the time.

Fresh absolutely deserves extra marketing attention as it is a desired attribute for food. Family is a bit more iffy but not all that much of a stretch that they want you to think about positive things when thinking about the product.
