Sour Lovers PSA
For any of you out there who love really sour candies like warheads and sour patch kids but remember that theyused to have a real mouth puckering sourness that they don't have anymore. This stuff here is the answer. They used to use tartaric acid back in the day but now it's mostly citric and malic acid which are sour, but not in the same way. I finally tested the theory and got a bag of tartaric acid and man is it awesome. I dipped some regular gummies in it and felt like I'd traveled in time. Now I'm dipping some dried apricots in there and it's heavenly.

fyi this will kill dogs so don't do the thing where you feed it to them to get a funny reaction

I've never understood the appeal of super sour candy, you're a sick freak if you like this kind of shit

Why should i get tartaric acid as opposed to citric, malic, or ascorbic acid? They all have similar pH levels and much better flavor. Ascorbic acid is also literally vitamin C

It's the flavour profile, I actually got a bag of citric acid as well to compare and while I like it, the tartaric has a kind of sharp mouth pucker that's like the candies used to be.

That's certainly a part.

Why did they remove tartaric acid though, maybe it was cancerous?

I found citric at the bulk food store. I know what you are talking about OP it's a different taste. I'd try some if it was readily available.
Good for adding to stuff with lemon/orange extract like cakes or ice cream where they otherwise taste sugary and not what you want from lemon/orange flavor. Can also just make 'juice' with it similarly with water and sugar.

It's more expensive is likely the reason. I paid about the same price for that 2 OZ bag of tartaric acid that I did for a 2 pound bag of citric acid.

I ordered mine off Amazon but it's apparently generally found in baking and wine making stores. I want to experiment making things like sour gummies but out of dried fruit. Apricots were the first test because I had some on hand.

>Repackaged in Canada
oof
>3.8g per gallon
but i appreciate this kind of forbidden measurement mixing because i do the same thing, it means the seller is also a Real One who has no idea wtf is going on

Another good ingredient for killing dogs is xylitol. If you have any shitbulls in your neighborhood, you can whack them pretty easily with about 15g of xylitol mixed into a meatball.

Even in dedicated candy stores its getting harder and harder to find things that are properly sour, shit sucks.
