>GMO are crops designed to be sterile so the seeds must be bought every year.
Half of the issue. Genetically modifying a crop was for making it highest yield by being drought resistant, frost resistant, hardy for transport to market, flavorful even when picked underripe, slow to retard and spoil, resistant to the virulent of pests or blight, and most of all "not going to die when doused with pesticide", aka "Round Up Ready".
If you use these copyrighted seeds without paying for them each time you plant, you get in trouble with the people who own the GMO copyright and sell them, aka Monsanto. Not all crops are sterile and seedless, but you can no longer harvest your own seeds for the next go around.
There are plenty of arguments against GMO (even more against Monsant), not the least of which is messing with nature and natural biodiversity. Imagine the loss of corn smut :o which is delicious, but unseen in restaruants by me in like 10 years. But, anyway, the only thing you can do is buy organic and hope it tips the scales of industry.
