The Egyptians woildn't even know hops existed. They've native to the northern hemisphere in temperate zones. They used other herbs as bittering and preservation elements.

How would you NOT drink warm beer without cooling technology?
How cocoa without milk and sugar?

Oh yeah, I forgot that the Aztecs could just walk right into the next jungle supermarket, take a sticks-and-vines shopping cart and buy a carton of fresh milk and a pack of sugar.

I don't think hops really make it taste much better, but their beer was probably sweet and lightly carbonated from being fermented overnight. They would drink stronger beers that were aged more on special occasions but their daily beer was more like a sweet low alcohol beer. It probably tasted fine, I've made similar overnight fermented drinks and it's not bad at room temp. Beer needing to be ice cold is more of a modern thing and only really necessary with beer that doesn't taste great to begin with.

Aztecs thought that the chili added to cocoa made the psychoactive compounds get into your body faster and more potently. I never cared much for spiciness with things like that though even if I like it in other food.

Romans probably just knew it tasted sweet and liked that but weren't aware of the consequences. Just like kids eating lead paint chips in more recent times.

Some people used to drink reindeer piss after the reindeer ate some intoxicating mushrooms and filtered out the stuff that could kill you lol. And some people probably ate magic mushrooms that were growing out of cow poop.

Chili peppers are technically fruits and get rather sweet when fully ripe. I know I read about them enjoying the capsaicin but I wonder if they did it for the sweetness too.

Also they would've had honey which tastes pretty good in hot cocoa.

They did, in fact, use honey to sweeten drinking chocolate, specifically that from the Mayan stingless bee. They learned apiculture from the Mayans and kept hives of "royal ladies" (iinm, their term for their bees translates directly to "royal lady," ix-something; ix means woman/lady)

I was on an actual site doing pre induction while they showed us how concrete tanks were made. The molds were giant iron things that were hoisted with a gantry crane. It was an absolute sight.
One of the workers had a pressure sprayer lubricating the mold.
I asked what it was and he responded: Cooking oil.
This is the first time I have ever seen seed oils used in an industrial context, but you've got a first hand account here... Which in your case becomes a second hand account.

Military industry was the original purpose of seed oils. After the wars ended, they repurposed it as food.

Fuck you, chimo. Hot spicy chile cocoa sounds amazing. And that beer was probably pretty great compared to river water sometimes. I can't get on board with the rust, but they didn't know any better. Imagine how much they dumbed down humanity by ingesting so much lead. Maybe it's not a lot. But I'd love to get into a time machine and have all three of those drinks with their respective people. And I'd tell them of our modern world, our advances in science and medicine and economy and civilization, and of how the OP was a pedo weeb incel whom we all laughed about, wondering what the fuck is wrong with people in modern times.

and they KNEW it was harmful! Also Romans loved Garum which is a really disgusting thing honestly. Romans were just freaky like that and I htink it was this exact freakiness that gave them the unpredictable upperhand in their wars

Cashew is also bad if it's raw. Only fried/baked cashew is actually safe and edible.

no they didn't it's a myth. lead acetate was found in SOME wine casks that were made out of lead sheets. Most of their wines was stored in bladders.

Not all peppers get sweet as they ripen. Some get hotter
Anonymous No.21529518 [Report]
>>21529508
They still get sweeter. I know sweet is used to mean sweet/mild when describing peppers sometimes, but even habaneros which are pretty spicy still taste quite sweet and fruity when orange/red. Most people are probably only eating green peppers so they don't realize how a lot of them get sweet even when they're hot.

Making the garum was disgusting, the sauce itself once it is done was perfectly fine, just a savory fish sauce, and could be stored in the home no problem.
That's why the garum factories were always outside the cities.
