Costco Trip
I'm heading into town today for my monthly trip to go to Costco to pick up groceries and supplies. I'll also be hitting up a Wegmans grocery store to fill in the stuff I can't find at Costco and going to a plumbing supply store and the John Deere dealership.

What's good at Costco now and are there any specials I should consider? I have a chest freezer. Thanks

lmao at the guy pretending to be Edgar from MiB, watching the rest of us scurry about our short pointless lives grocery shopping, while he too grocery shops.

Anyway I've got no insight into what Costco or Wegman's has right now but you should do what I do before going to a store and check their site for the circular or deals section. At least that way you have an idea of what to look for. Can I ask what you do for fresh produce in between trips? Gardening or do you end up using a lot of canned/frozen stuff?

You can go to the Costco sameday delivery site and view most of the warehouse inventory by category (including โ€œweekly savingsโ€ and โ€œwhatโ€™s newโ€) by entering the zip code of the warehouse.

The the prices on that site are inflated a bit, but you can calculate the in store cost for most items by dividing the listed post discount price by 1.135 (I think the add on for most electronics is a flat $13)

Just Bare nugs are on discount right now, and many locations got in a batch of frozen โ€œwildโ€ blueberries (which taste fine but I personally think is a scam to sell regular blueberries that grew too small).

I dunno, but I had a pleasant drive to Costco and got some good stuff like milk, Catalina crunch and a whole bunch of groceries.

I totally would have got that if the club had it. I'm not stupid enough to buy it on the website

>Wild blueberries
Didn't have them at my club but I know what you are talking about. Wymans of Maine. Thet are good.

Going to a Costco on a weekday is creepy. Only a few older people just looking around but other than that it's a ghost town. They must make all their money on the weekends. I guess that makes sense. Most people are at work.

It's at Aldi's once or twice a year in the Aldi Finds in the freezers. I buy a few for the deep freeze when I see them.
My closest Costco is 45 mins, solid expressway driving. I live in a boutique kind of coastal town minus all chains, good but also has the drawbacks of missing all chains.

Anyway, despite that, I go every 3 months for paper towels, toilet paper and mostly unrefrigerated goodies like pallets of beverages, bagels and almond pastries. I might get street tacos and a few more items and spend the night with my sibling in that town but I have to give up on prime steaks without a hassle due to the drive. I get my tires and annual prescription sunglasses there (store brand is guaranteed for life, and they are mirrored).

Sounds like a nice area. The nearest town tried that for years but then broke down amd got a starbucks. Now we have a burger king, chicken fillet and even a taco bell. There has always been a mcdonalds in the middle of nowhere though.

I am on quite a bit of acreage and it's about an hour for me. Tires are pretty good. They will repair a flat no charge and let you use their nitrogen. I fill my truck, s2000 and my motorcycle with it every now and then. Don't need to much because it hardly leaks. Gas was a good price.

I've gotten my glasses there years ago. I think one was a Kirkland and the other Duck something. Reasonable. Is the auto buying program or travel any good and is there any reason to use the website to buy things?

I like to hit the Costco gift cards for holiday gifts. Taking care of gas cards for the young drivers, dinner for a young couple, or the multi-store kind of thing always gets used, even more than cash. Spending $80 and giving $100 value can't be beat. Most restaurants do versions of that like Buy a gift card, get a coupon for you, kind of specials, but like I said, my town is all mom n pop chef restaurants restricted, no chain restaurants, so I wouldn't use them cept for travel.
Honestly, I have nothing truly bad to say about Costco other than they are damn busy, so other than the ridiculously long gas lines, the congested parking lot, the show me your ID door militant, or exit receipt checkers, the early closing hours, esp Sundays, and the marathon of walking requiring a nap afterwards. Sometimes you just want a mini trip to the grocery, ya know.

Don't go on the weekends if you can. I was just there and there were hardly any people there. (Also no free samples damnit)

Gas is never really bad for me because I think only half the people know the fuel line extends to the other side so if there is a line I just zip around in front of whoever is waiting.

I use to buy discount gift cards but only if I knew they also put out coupons too so I could double up on the savings.

Yeah it's available, but most of the other shit I buy is more expensive at costco than it is from my normal grocery stores. Either that or I have to buy it in too large of a quantity to get the cost down. I'm not going to costco just so I can pay $2 less for a chicken while also either spending $30 more on everything else I need or buying twice as much shit as I'll ever be able to use

Different anon but sometimes they have stuff online on clearance (they tend to update on Thursday morning but not always), but aside from that anything thatโ€™s available both in store and online costs more online. Occasionally thereโ€™s great appliance deals online and the โ€œCostco Directโ€ quantity discount can sometimes be high and stack nicely with another discount.

One of the nice things about the Samโ€™s Club plus membership for now is that shipping is free for orders above $50 and the online prices are the same as in store. Itโ€™s a great way to get cheap bulky items (toilet paper, paper towels, drinks).

Kind of surprising to hear. I rarely see anything that I wouldn't buy given the space aside from patio equipment seaso, and my house and garage can accomodate a good deal. I don't need a stand up surfboard either, because, duh....sharks rofllmao.

I would have a membership alone for the almond pastries; they are like croissanty, marzipan filled, and bits of toasted almonds. But boxes of yogurts, and pallets of seltzers and starbucks coffee fill my garage fridge. Buying chocolates, cookies, wheels of cheese, and little imports make my trip. The premade pasta salads, grain salads and dinner kits have gotten better than all the competitors.

You don't know there are conservative mountain people in California that make a twice yearly trip to resupply? Seriously, the first hour after the wholesale places are open is when you'll see the mountain people in there with skids of stuff: gallons of peanut butter, multiple dozens of eggs, multiple 50# bags of flour, etc... It's a little weird actually.

So here are the things (You) and OP can't articulate. Not because you're stupid, but likely because you're impatient with your posts, and haven't considered articulating yourselves properly.

Food is the most colourful, playful, and enjoyable concept in life when you've grown past 25. Regardless of whether you have a family, or you're a loner. The packaging on these snacks really stimulate the senses. Look at why fast food joints choose their colours, why advertisements are created and even exist in the first place.

Yeah, sure, video games can rival the colors' and advertisements' captivation of the senses, but that's not real life, kid.

And now your side - you hate the others performing their "banal rituals" because they convey a sense of faithfully turbocharged consumerism, hedonism oriented values, and shallow depth personality. They don't get this excited over discovering Hannibal's march into Spain with his war elephants, or finally cranking over that Camaro which sat in disrepair in the garage for 8 years. No, not those sophisticated, high entropy thoughts - only some little factory made, factory packages treats - too salty and too sweet for it to be healthy for them, but there they go, bouncing up and down despite ALL of this.

You're both right, and you're both wrong, but only OP on his trip to Costco isn't sulking in his insecurities, and is enjoying the fleeting lives we all have.

My only beef with costco is the rampant cart thievery. I prefer to park my cart in low traffic areas and do short runs down one or two aisles to grab what I need before depositing my haul and going to the next anchor spot. No less than 3 times I have come back to find someone emptying my cart of its merchandise to try and make off with it, and 2 other times they had already finished and vanished into the crowd with my cart, leaving my shit one time on a nearby shelf but another time literally on the floor. This was always near the store entrance (when my cart had a few items, but not a ton) where it would have taken them barely more time to just fuck off back outside and grab their own cart. Also, one of the times this happened was march 2020 and I'm pretty sure the guy who was trying to steal it (who gave me shit when I told him to stop touching my stuff and fuck off) gave me covid.

I can understand if the cart is empty but if there is stuff in it, fuck off and get your own cart for chrissakes.
