So, since "junk food" neither has ever been precisely defined (the classic example of the hamburger being "junk" but all its ingredients on a plate apparently being not) nor EVER having been proved to be "unhealthy" (how? Easily digestible high caloric food, just what our body is made for) the meat is bit worse but still perfectly fine? Good.

No, that's not what Harvard said. Harvard ONLY studied PROCESSED meat. Then, when the study led to crappy journalistic headlines regarding steak. They posted a retraction to clarify that steak and surprisingly even processed meat isn't bad.

"The researchers found "low" evidence that either red meat or processed meat is harmful. Their advice: there's no need to reduce your regular red meat and processed meat intake for health reasons."

Like I told the sexy girlscout with her cookies: I ain't buyin' it.
I don't really l even eat meat much but I find it hard to believe that any university would publish any study saying that meat would be worse than some ill-defined bugbear.
Unless this likely non-existent study specifically defines junk food within some concrete parameters, whatever comparisons it makes are entirely worthless.

It's also really hard to believe that everything a mammal is made of should be harmful to the mammal homo sapiens.
It's basically as close to our own biology as possible. No big extractions, no army of enzymes needed to remove nutrients from phytines etc, just basically ready to use pieces that our body just has to put together in its own image again.

I don't know for sure but they were far slimmer than any country today. Probably related to less ultra processed food, additives, smaller portion sizes, less access to fast food (+ home deliveries) and a more active lifestyle ie more walking every day to get anything done rather than stare at a pocket screen sitting down at home with fried brains and massive depressions from age 14.

a junk food burger is usually really greasy and slathered in tons of mayo/ketchup, with cheese, bacon, on cheap white bread, etc. and it's usually not taken in that context of itself but that it's often paired with a lot of soda and greasy french fries.

a "salad" wouldn't be exactly the same. i get your point but trying to do a gotcha with the word processed never convinces anyone of anything and it just seems silly and timewasting.

>

Red meat is a nutrient dense food providing important amounts of protein, essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that are the most common nutrient shortages in the world, including vitamin A, iron, and zinc.

Despite claims by the World Health Organization (WHO) that eating processed meat causes colon cancer and red meat probably causes cancer, the observational data used to support the claims are weak, confounded by multiple unmeasured factors, and not supported by other types of research needed for such a conclusion. Although intervention studies are designed to test the validity of associations found in observational studies, two interventions of low-fat, low-meat diets in volunteers that failed to find a benefit on cancer were not considered in the WHO decision.

It is likely that the association of red-meat consumption with colon cancer is explained either by an inability of epidemiology to detect such a small risk or by combinations of other factors such as greater overweight, less exercise, lower vegetable or dietary fiber intake, and perhaps other habits that differentiate those who eat the most meat from those who eat the least.

When they did eat cake they made it from scratch with butter and eggs and flour and sugar and little else. They didn't drink 600 calorie coffees or 48 oz sweet teas. The kids fucking played outside and rode bikes and played sports. They didn't have xbox. They walked to school and back. They walked to friends' houses. I know I grew up like that. People don't let ten year olds walk across town anymore. People eat awful junk food that hadn't been designed yet.
It was the food pyramid moving to grains, it was "fat bad", it was designing food to be addictive to get repeat customers. Testing and marketing and scientists and laboratories. A lot of things changed in society. But we have too much and we eat too much.

A smoothie will make you fatter than eating the fruit. It's not a retarded argument. When you blend the fruits your body doesn't process it as fiber. And you do ingest more. Several diets will allow you unlimited fruit as long as you eat it. You start juicing it and blending it with milk and syrups you do lose nutritional value.
