Tonic itself is alright, but I'm okay with ice cold seltzer and a couple wedges of lime. It's the cold fizziness.

There used to be a mixer called Bitter Lemon that was my real love.

It's just a historical moniker. The whole point of tonic water's quinine content was to prevent malaria in the swamp mosquito-laden danger zone.

It helps for leg cramps at night too!

Originally it was marketed like that. An Indian magical tonic water that had healing properties.

Now it seems they dropped the whole Indian thing, seems to be a reputational hazard these days.

In Australia, at least for our version of Schweppes, Indian Tonic Water has additional minor orange flavouring in addition to citric acid & quinine.
They also have a "bitter lemon" which is tonic water with lemon juice and additional bitter flavours but they don't call it tonic water, just a "mixer with quinine". It's really nice with gin.

interesting. the version we get in Australia has about 8g per 100g. 8% sugar is extremely low compared to other soft drinks, which are usually >50%
