How often do you clean your kitchen?
I don't think a few bugs is that big of a deal. Ants are actually very hygienic, the secrete anti-bacterial compounds and clean up food crumbs. Honestly a kitchen is probably cleaner if it has a few bugs.

SCIENCE TIME!

Microwaves heat food by using electromagnetic radiation to agitate the water molecules in food to increase their temperature. However there needs to be enough mass to "penetrate" and retain these waves for the mocules to heat up. Very very very small bodies of mass do not heat up and are basically unaffected. You can test they by putting a single cooked grain of rice in the nuke and letting it run for a minute. The rice was be the same temp.
buggers are safe.

I cannot stand a messy kitchen. I don't know how you can live like this. I used to share a house with some people who were really messy, and it completely killed my appetite. I would starve myself because I couldn't bring myself to use the kitchen. Nowadays when renting a place, having a kitchen space to myself is my #1 priority.
Anyway, I do a full clean maybe once a week, but I try to clean up as I go too so it never gets too messy. Dishes get done at the end of every day. I would not tolerate bugs in the kitchen, except the occasional fruit fly in the summer cause there's really fuck all you can do about that.

My mother was a borderline hoarder and when I still lived with my folks I would have arguments with her about the kitchen specifically. Of all the places to leave messy, the place where you prepare your food should not be it. I used to live like this. Worked a part time job, lived at a trailer park, made enough money to cover a hundred bucks a month for lot fees and electric (owned the trailer at least), and would spend the entire rest of my day drinking and smoking pot and just didn't do anything else at all. Lived like that for years, would just shoo away the roaches on my bed, which was covered in trash except for a man shaped spot where I'd sleep. I dont really know what set me straight, one day I just had an epiphany: drinking and smoking pot all day, and doing nothing else, ISN'T a good thing and that I should fix my shit. Now, thirteen years later, I drink and smoke most of the day, but always take time to clean up my messes. Still trailer parking it, but it's clean and bug free now

She was also a neat freak and would set off all the mousetraps by sweeping and dusting wherever I put them, so it was impossible to keep the population in check. Deaf too, so only I could hear them in the walls day and night.

Everything people have said so far is bullshit.
You don't exterminate fruit flies by making traps while still doing a habit which allows them and their eggs to survive. You'll kill hundreds but they'll just keep coming.
Instead you should keep your fruit in the fridge, clean your sink and flush it with hot water plus put your organic trash in the freezer (or just dump the bag every day). Don't leave any organic crap out for them to infest. Clean your shit including stovetop and floors. Don't leave apple cores or other stuff in any trashbins.

Keep it up for at least 2 weeks as a fresh batch of flies takes 8-10 days to hatch.

I wipe down the kitchen every few months and clean appliances within a day or two but only if they are visibly messy or dirty. Never had a bug issue besides a bi-monthly roach, and there was one rat that showed up after someone else in the building had accumulated a ton of filth which I quickly caught. I'll occasionally spot a stray ant and decide to throw out the garbage early but I've never seen more than one per week. I think the huntsman spiders are doing most of the work.

My grandma is a vampire. Everyone who had prolonged contact with her either died young or went insane. You've never met a person so dedicated to hate. She hated my cousin since before he was born and spent my whole life trying to turn me against him and spent every waking moment slandering family members and stoking family feuds. I stuck around cause I was the only "good" one, but then she forgot how much she hated everyone else and turned all the madness onto me.

there are 3 types of ants, depending on what attracts them is how you get rid of them. If they are in the bathroom, they are seeking water or were driven up from the ground by rising water, a lot of rain. That's good to know. You attract them with the bait for sugar ants, boric acid in liquid.
They will take it back the the queen and you will not see them for literal months. They are not inevitable. Kill them.

Oof. Here you can't even give away portions of relatively large sums of money without risking it getting filed as "pre-inheritance" and retracted. It has to be done a significant amount of years before death.

I may be tempted to have the freedom way but people really go absolutely coo-coo in the head when they start dying of old age. My parents do not wish to give everything they have to a cat shelter now while keeping their wits about. If they're drain flies they're covered in slime that tends to protect them from drain cleaners. Pull your p trap, and scrub down it and the sink drain with a brush and soapy water.
