no mold, it's in the fold

Oh, I just purged a bunch of things to the trash. They were all 1 year or more expired, but I'm looking for shelf space, not to be wastefu. Probably it was all fine.

They all used to have like 6 year expiration dates. (Goya still does). Something changed a few years ago to keep them between 1-2 years.

I'm sure it's safe for a recipe right now. If you can't run to the store right now, here's what I would do: carefully open it without shaking. When you broke the seal, there was no positive pressure or, outgas, or burp, right? Inspect the surface tension for any mold or something off color. Sniff test. Taste for metallic. I'm sure it's fine. Enjoy.

Botulism is like 100% death dude, it's why you shouldnt use wooden spoons.
Anonymous No.21540317 >>21540325
If steve1989 has taught me anything it's that if it looks/smells/tastes fine it's probably fine. If the can isn't bloated and the sauce doesn't taste bad/metallic go for it.

Just open it and check for mold and smell! If there's visible mold or if it smells funny then you throw it out, otherwise it's still good to consume.
Anonymous No.21540841
Unless the can is damaged or there is a defect at manufacture they can last indefinitely. Botulism can just as easily happen at 3 months old as it does at 30 years old. All depends if the can has been damaged and made correctly
