Casual Gourmet Restaurants?
Why do people on this board pretend to hate Casual Gourmet places like Olive Garden and Longhorn SteakHouse?
Anonymous No.21543868 >>21544520 >>21544539
Olive Garden is pretty good, Longhorn sucks and is outclassed in every way by Texas Roadhouse. Longhorns bread is a joke.

No it's just a regular word. It has a meaning for everyone else. You too can enjoying sharing a common understanding of words if you try. Think about the times you've seen the word used outside of marketing. What are the commonalities between the contexts? You can figure this out.

They're not gourmet they're just good for the price point. Which is all you need 99% of the time. I can grab a beer and burger at red robins or other "lower class" places as well. Just depends on the mood.

There are legit reasons to hate on the Olive Garden. For one, my local one doesn't serve ranch, which the fucking chain literally sells at Walmart. Don't fucking tell me you don't have ranch when ALL the other fucking ones DO, and you sell that shit at Walmart.

>>21544520
My local one fails to wash their lettuce (I traced what was making me sick, it's them failing to wash their shit). Which is a damn shame, cause I like em everywhere else.
Anonymous No.21545227 >>21545569
I grew up on chains like that. They make good food when they are in an area where they compete or die & get replaced. In a town where they don't compete? You get dog shit from them half the time. Or if you have DIE servers? Yeah, you aren't gonna have a good time.

OG bread is great hot, but turns into brick when cold. This applies to all of them. The salad is mid, the soup watery. But they have some good meals there, and the desserts can be good. Personally I like Carraba's more - overall better experience and better food. But it's not "Italian food" like what you'd get from a actual italian restaurant.

Same shit for Cheddars. Loved em growing up, but the local one has shit for brains servers, so I can't eat there.

Even have the same problem with Ledos. Can't find good help these days apparently. Shame because the food is decent.

Also, /ck/ hates chains because it's not fast food, /ck/'s favorite thing. But we all know these uber eat's types are getting chain food to go.

i don't fuck with the salads too much, they did do a steak salad and potato combo awhile back for cheap, I always got that. I usually just get the strip steak with 2 sides, and get the baked potato and chili if they have it, or Ill just get a second potato.

I think more of /ck/ actually cooks and appreciates good food from mom and pop real restaurants than loves fast food. It's a bell curve with fast food on one end and fine dining/home cooking on the other.
Luckily "family restaurants" like Olive Garden hardly get mentioned. Because they honestly suck more than fast food. It kind of IS fast food but you sit for it and can get $7 cocktails.

Applebee's doesn't really carry "good" steaks. I never understood ordering more than a burger and fries at places like that. The sides they have for steaks are always frozen little bags of veg medley with margarine that they boil and cut open and dump on the plate. Stuff like that. Just get a real steak from a real place. Why do you go there? You like the sports bar or something? Jesus.

"""People""" on this board are pretentious morons. These big chain restaurants are not fine dining but nobody ever pretended they were (besides the voices in schizos' heads).
What ARE they? Tasty, fairly priced, crowd-pleasing menus, with average service and a willingness to seat a large group. I went to Carrabba's after I graduated high school. Went to LongHorn when my sister graduated. Went to Bucca di Beppo for my birthday with my grandparents. All of those were perfectly delicious, filling meals that wouldn't break the bank with a party of 9.

People here believe any company using Sysco to deliver their stock is bad, for literally no fucking reason.
People here believe these restaurants are legitimately only serving microwaved meals, when in fact very few of these places use microwaves for anything.
People here are either Yuros seething that they don't have this kind of everyday luxury, schizos, or redditards who seethe about made up boomers in their minds and unironically subscribe to the Bourdain mindset that anything which isn't "rustic street food" is bad.

I did look it up, took five seconds of Googling to find out what full of shit that is
>“I was a manager at Olive Garden and was sent to their culinary institute in Tuscany back in 2007. It was more like a hotel, during the off-season, with restaurant on site. They would let the Olive Garden come and stay in all the rooms (small place-maybe 20 rooms) and they would use the restaurant (closed to the public-again off season) as a classroom for maybe an hour here or there and talk about spices or fresh produce for a minute before going site seeing all day.”
>“The only time we saw the “chef” was when she made a bolognese sauce while taking pictures with each of us to send to our local newspapers.”
>“There wasn’t much learning involved. Still though, it was a free trip to Italy.”
Oh yes, Olive Garden and their Italian trained chefs LMAOOOOOOOOO

This sounds like bullshit, why would a company pay for its managers to take a fucking Italian getaway? Even if it's to claim they have staff trained in Italy, it would be so easy to disprove it doesn't sound worth it at all.
