This is the first beer I've tried other than American piss beer. It's a German lager. Did I do good?

You can't really go wrong with German beer, even their worst brews like Becks or Bitburger are still better than any American piss.

Honestly it's hard to even find near me. There are at least 12 liquor stores in my small town but only one has a quality selection which included this German beer. I know this one isn't German but I've always wanted to try Gulden Draak

try some wheat beer (unfiltered)
just pour 90% into a big glass, swirl the bottle a bit to get the remaining yeast at the bottom to solve in the remaining 10% of beer and pour that in too

That's incorrect. Their beers are predictable and straightforward, but the vast majority is decent or better. If you want to know what a bad beer tastes like, try Leffe: reboiled leftovers from Stella with syrup and artificial flavours added.

The best beers come from rather local breweries that haven't evolved into mega corpos yet but aren't hipster craftshit either
Like ZΓΆtler or Rothaus.
I'd say OP did good

Get Paulaner Oktoberfest lager (blue label) if it's available, it's in season.
Otherwise get Radeburger. It's cheap and fucking delicious.

The Hofbrau house is where Hitler made some of his earliest speeches and they organized the putsch from there as well if I'm not mistaken, so it doesn't get much more on theme

Completely wrong. American beer might be tasteless but it's inoffensive, while bad German beer is aggressively bad with a foul skunked taste.

Hofbrau is solid. My German of choice is Ayinger (oktoberfest marzen is my go to but they're all good), otherwise Hofbrau or Weihenstephaner. I drink Paulaner a bunch too but I honestly can't tell if it's good or bad, just tastes fine and tends to be cheaper.

i've had that
tastes like budweiser
tastes like sapporo ichiban
the most readily available beers all kind of taste similar. rolling rock has a softer mouth feel though

you know why sapporo it tastes like german beer? Because it is. Most of the beer you've ever drank are german beers or imitations of varying quality. Even american mass market slopwater is a cheap copy of a german style beer.

had the same beer today at the bar after work. Good choice, really. But you should also try their hefe weizen. The taste is... different, and brings appetite if I may say so. It would be good to eat some savory snacks with it, or even at dinner.

Beer doesn't travel all that well, and a lot of the shitty boomer "import" brands use green glass bottles and can get skunked from exposure to light.

German beer is like French wine
massively overrated because "muh tradition" and "muh purity law". all it is is an appeal to authority.
I guarantee in a blind taste test you couldn't tell the difference.

Of course you be sure to not to leave the sediment in the bottle.
If you look inside, you'll see white~ish deposited stuff on the bottom (or the side, if the bottle is stored laying down). That's where most of its distinct flavour is. SO, if you just pour the beer in the glass, you're missing, a lot. Try what this anon said >>21545341
DON'T BE A CASUAL - ask for the bottle unopened. I had a young girl bartender asking me what I was doing there, swirling the bottle. Fucking zoomerette.

Baladin
Toccalmatto
Birra del Borgo
Cane di Guerra
Pedavena
Tre Fontane
Birrificio del Forte
There's nothing wrong with Ichnusa's non filtrata.

Just off the top of my head. Can hold their own against anyone in their category. Italian beer is ridiculously underrated except in international beer circles. Ignore Moretti, ignore overflavoured "artisanal" hipster bullshit and stop drinking beer with pizza, it's a culinary disgrace.

>>21550812
There are 5 very good (semi-)regular anons, 2 of which worked in world-class establishments, 1 still runs several and has for decades. There are 10-12 more who really know their topic (and it isn't slop). Only an idiot would take /ck/ at face value.

And most of them are literally unseen at local bars, not even in the stores (unless some limited time "beer specials" sale, usually in the upcoming Oktoberfest period).
I am talking about stuff you can drink almost everywhere, anon. I can almost always find Peroni / Nastro Azzurro and HB/Franziskaner together in a bar fridge, so (in a wrong~ish way I admit) those are what they make common beer culture.
At least pic related is not that bad anyway, if maybe a bit of a "plain mary sue".
