I've been with a lot of Asian women before I met her, Taiwanese, Korean, etc.
None of them could cook or do anything like she could. None of them could sing, play the guitar, and none of them matched her ambition. She learned to speak fluent English without an accent in 3 years. Not a chance any of those other women could have done that. Besides, if you are implying my kids will look weird because she has dark skin, my wife is actually palish complected when not exposed to the sun. She isn't white like some bleached skinned Chinese girl, but she was pale. I didn't 'settle for her'. I chose her. You shoulda seen her in real life in the traditional Thai royalty dress 11 years ago. DAYUM she was so beautiful. I love my wife sir, I didn't 'settle' for her. Can't wait to see our kids. Open your mind anon, the end all be all isn't 'East Asians', whatever that means. If you have been to Japan, you would find out that 95% of Japanese are darker complected, or 'yellowish' like my wife is. Never been to Mainland China but I assume they don't look much different than Taiwanese. Came for the beauty, stayed for the food, determination, and overall package. Love my wife!

Your kids will be even worse off because they won't even be white. Theyre going to be browner, shorter, and probly have tiny dicks. Maybe if you raised them in thailand it would be better for them since they'll probably be taller and lighter skin.

I’m sorry your experience was so bad. I’m eager to go back to Thailand in the future once their political situation calms down. Right now it’s a country for visiting and admiring and not much else. I have absolutely zero guilt for marrying my wife and you can’t instill that in me. If I didn’t think she was pretty I wouldn’t have talked to her initially, but at the end beauty is besides the point. All beauty fades. What matters are the intangibles a person has. Cast aside the narrow-minded, immature viewpoint of the internet (and 4chan). Again, sorry your experience of life sucked.

They absolutely seem to, yeah. I'm the guy from the other Thai food thread who mentioned having a Thai roommate back in the day. She was obsessed with one friend of mine because he's a soft-faced, boyish guy, even now 16 years later, he's a babyface. Another roommate said as much, detailing her preference for another of my friends, a then up-and-coming MMA fighter (now convicted murderer) and the Thai roommate said "he's too muscular and tan; he looks like a farmer. No one back home would want him."
They seem to equate soft features and pale skin as indicators of status.

Title: Pot roast beef w/ gravy Islamic style (ทำเนื้ออบแบบอิสลาม - Making Islamic-style roast beef)
Ingredients/Instructions:
Garlic: 4 cloves
Coriander root: 2-3 roots
Black pepper: 1 Tsp
Potato: (Quantity originally listed as 10 kg is crossed out)
Onion: 150 g (Annotation adds: blend with 10 g ginger)
Light soy sauce: 3 Tbsp
Seasoning sauce: 4 Tbsp
Dark soy sauce: 3 Tbsp
Cornstarch: 2 Tbsp
Brown sugar: 60 g
Spice Section -> Bay leaf: 3-4 leaves
Cinnamon: 1 stick (Annotation clarifies to use a stick instead of 1 Tsp)
Cloves: 3 pcs
Cumin: ¼ Tsp
Onion: 150 grams or 1 bulb
Butter + Oil: 1-2 Tbsp
[Instruction]: Pour in the stir-fried meat that was set aside. Add 100 ml water and simmer.
Translator's Notes on Handwritten Annotations:
The green ink notes provide cooking instructions:
A bracket around items 1-3 indicates they should be pounded together (ตำ - tam), likely in a mortar and pestle.
A bracket around items 6-10 has the word "หมัก" (mak), which means "to marinate". This suggests items 1-10 form the marinade for the beef.
Brackets indicate that the spices (items 11-14) and the onion/butter/oil (items 15-16) are to be stir-fried (ผัด - phat).
A note next to the spice section (11-14) suggests a cooking time of "> 3 hours" (> 3 ชม.).

There was a rice shortage and the government wanted to promote people eating noodles instead of rice. So they took a Fujian dish, and called it Pad Thai.

Then in 2000 they made a huge marketing push to promote their cuisine, the government literally created a state owned restaurant company and opened Thai restaurants across the world and also invented more dishes.

Yeah, it was the government of Prime Minister Papapoopoopuppykorn (or whatever his name was) during and in the immediate aftermath of WW2. To be fair they modified the dish with Thai flavours and ingredients (tamarind, for example) but it's basically true that it was based on Fujianese/Teochew saucy noodle dishes.

Regional dishes.
What you know as "ThAi cUiSiNe" is mostly Central and Southern Thai food IE stuff from Bangkok and the northern parts of the south. Tom yum, green curry, red curry, mango rice etc etc etc
Papaya salad and laab in general are rare examples of northern dishes the government promoted within its own borders as well as abroad with its culinary diplomacy initiatives. The Northwest, for example, has a simple dish generally unknown abroad, stir fried curry potatoes. They also have blood rice, which is similar to egg rice but the coagulation meant to keep it together is from the addition of liquid pork blood rather than egg. I think the only northwestern dish to be popular internationally is sai ua, a lemongrass sausage.

What is it with Thais and beef? I'm the roommate guy from earlier and she didn't eat beef, either. At least not at first. The day she started was because I cooked something beefy and she wanted a bit. I asked her about not eating beef and she said
>well, it's a promise I made to my grandma, who was very much against eating beef but she's back in Thailand so won't know ^_^
"Yeah, and isn't she dead, anyway?"
And this look of abject terror came over her face.
>you're right! so she could be anywhere!
And she started saying something that sounded like "charap sieua!" or something like that. I couldn't ever find what it meant.
The only other time I saw her freak out like that was when I asked her about the idol at the Chinese supermarket and she said that "it's just a kitchen god–I mean he! He's a kitchen god!! Charap sieua! Charap sieua! Charap sieua!"
I don't speak a lick of Thai so I have no idea what she was actually saying.

They are hardcore buddhists. Unlike the Chinese and Koreans which are all atheistic or the Japanese who are atheist or shinto.

Thailand is poor & it's still a very religious country. China is poor too but they had communism smother all religion.

Anyway hardcore buddhism shuns eating meat you could be reincarnated into a cow or something.

Cows are worshipped there in the north where’s she’s from. There’s some sort of pagan god there other than Buddha that forbids eating beef. Also she says she grew up on a farm where they raised water buffalo and she says they’re cute and she loves them. She also says beef smells. So she has many reasons. Which one is the truth? :)
All I can say is that we have been together for 13 years and I’ve never seen he eat beef on purpose and when she had accidently eaten it a little she gets “sick”.

Also my wife is deathly afraid of ghosts. They have some truly extravagant and barbaric ghosts in Thailand in their culture. Like the tall ghost. Or the ghost that feeds on humans and is nothing but a pile of floating organs. My wife always has me close the closet door and stuff. Might be a ghost in there. If I talk about her parents being ghosts she gets very serious and afraid.

Chatgpt says "That sounds like she was probably saying something along the lines of "ขอรับเชื้อ" (kho rap chuea)" and clarifying it means “May I take on the bad karma,” or “I accept the spiritual contamination.”

This phrase (or variants of it) is used when someone believes they’ve accidentally done something offensive, spiritually impure, or karmically dangerous — like insulting a religious idol, touching something sacred incorrectly, or violating a taboo like eating beef (especially for devout Buddhists or Hindus in Thailand). The idea is to acknowledge the wrongdoing and accept responsibility in a way that’s humble and spiritually sincere.

My wife doesn’t play games. Never played them in her life. Can’t get her to play them. Would like to someday especially the old ones that are fun. She also doesn’t like my book collecting habits. But I guess I should be thankful that she tolerates it. Umm. She is also strong-minded and oftentimes as hard headed as I am. So we get in arguments obviously but never stay mad at each other. My wife can easily go from extremely submissive and passive and cute to aggressive and dominant. I think it’s due to her intelligence. She is probably even smarter than I am. Actually she is. She learned English fluently in just a year or two enough to graduate college here and she has several degrees, Thai degrees too. Very good at math. Etc. it’s sometimes hard being married to a very intelligent person.
