This is like saying you're a beef guy when the only beef you've ever eaten is beef jerkey. Even if you've had 100 different flavours/styles of beef jerkey, it in no way means you have an understanding of beef as a whole if you've never had a burger, or steaks, or roast beef, etc, etc.

Instant coffee and percolator coffee from folgers or whoever is simply not going to give you a real idea of what coffee, as a whole, actually is.

And let me be clear, I'm not saying you can't enjoy instant coffee or similar, just that you're breadth of experience with coffee is very shallow if that's all you drink.

Got a cheap espresso machine recently, been figuring things out as we go. My gf is better at using it than I am, she showed me how I was overfilling it which was making the shots small and fucking up the crema (my favorite part). I bought a coffee machine for $4k ten years ago and never looked back. Finding good beans that aren't nasty took a while. Found my favorite and after a couple of months and now everyone whose ever tasted my coffee says it's the best one that they've ever had. Not even close.
