I bought one of these and it works perfectly every time. I'd rather boil up 12 at once, but they don't always come out perfect like the pod. 6.5 - 7 min and then shake the thing and the shells come off. Perfect eggs with little work.

If you want the perfect peel you have to cool down the egg and let the egg white harden. This can be done with an ice bath, you can leave the egg alone for a few hours, you can put it in the fridge. The important thing is to cool it down. The entire reason the membrane rips the egg white is because it's soft like jelly and requires less force to rip. When the egg white is properly chilled the membrane will rip before the egg white.

I think it's this. The point of the ice bath is to cause contraction since heat expands, the contraction pulls away and separated from the shell membrane. The membrane is the adhesive to the shell connecting the moist inner layer to the harder drier shell portion. When water gets inside and is agitated it pushes the liquid solvent (water) into the crevice seam of the membrane.

Presuming you throw them in cold water when they're done cooking (I do), this is how I do it. Did it for years at various restaurants, peeling thousands of eggs in my lifetime
>pull out of water
>locate bottom of egg
>tap the bottom gently in a rotating circle on the counter top (rather than smashing it once ron bottom to make big pieces, this makes many small eggshell fragments)
>wet egg and wet thumbs
>hold egg in right hand, peel with left thumb
>start from the bottom you broke up and make it to the side
>with a bit of pressure on the egg itself once exposed, peel with the thumb and slide under the shell a bit
>pull off large chunks of eggshell ideally
>occasionally redunk eggs/hands

Works 95% of the time, and when it doesn't, you can just call your eggs shit. Parenthesis is stuff I do but it works just as well when I don't, it's mostly me feeling as if it's wrong.
If you can't do this, you suck and shouldn't be in the kitchen. Go buy 50 eggs and practice 2 hours straight until you can do it.
