Love pistachios but I'd never buy them shelled. The ROI on shelled nuts simply isn't worth it in today's hustle-and-bustle world.

I love them. They are my favorite too, just plain and lightly salted. I could sit down with a full bowl and go to town unshelling them while watching a movie, but I recently discovered they affect my coumadin levels, dammit.

DUDE i just LOVE the hustle and bustle of the big city, it’s so DYNAMIC and makes me feel like i’m in one of my favourite TV SHOWS. you should totally come on down to my studio apartment, it’s got EXPOSED RED BRICK walls and everything, we can crack open a nice shelled pistachio or three and get crazy watching some cartoons on adult swim! and dude, dude, DUDE, we have GOTTA go down to the barcade- listen here, right, it’s a BAR where us ADULTS who do ADULTING can go DRINK. BUT!!!! it’s also an ARCADE like when we were kids, so we can play awesome VIDEO GAMES, without dumb kids bothering us. speaking of which megan and i have finally decided to tie the knot- literally -we’re both getting snipped tomorrow at the hospital, that way we can save money to spent more on ourselves and our FURBABIES. i’m fuckin JACKED man, i’m gonna SLAM this pistachio and pop open another one!!!

They're better in the shell so I can't just wreck handfuls. I don't know if they're the best nuts. Macadamia are delicious

Daily reminder that pistachios grown in the US are most likely grown by the POM Wonderful corporation which uses recovered waste water from fracking to water their crops (they claim it's safe and an accepted practice)

>Pistachio pesto
Ingredients? I never make regular pesto because I’ll end up with a bunch of leftover pine nuts that cost 50 million dollars

i eat like, two bags of unsalted pistacios a week. i have been saving the shells, i dont know why, is there any use for them?
i heard that some people put them untop of the soil un their houseplants, but i only have 3 plants, a chilly and two cactuses, i doubt the cactuses would care. and i am going to kill my chillie in a few days because i am going to France for a month and i cant ask my neighbor to come over and water it because she is an asshole and i dont want her in my house while i am gone

nta, but the heart of a pesto is just an herb, a seed, and an oil, with a option to add (but highly recommended) an alum (usually garlic) and a cheese, and if you want to add other elements there's no one stopping you (such as peppers, vinegar, sugar [at min for balance], spices, etc.). The nuttiness already comes with the pistachios, so it'd just replace the pine nuts in any pesto recipe you'd normally use. Crush your pistachios so they are smaller and denser like a pine nut, and use the same amount by volume (or just weigh it). I've had a nice cilantro-walnut pesto with vinegar and serrano peppers that was quite good. Do wtv you'd like

mulch on top of soil is used to prevent the soil from drying out, esp from the sun. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Could also just add to compost, doesn't really matter

i have like an entire trashbag full of just pistachio shells, ive also heard that some people put them in their wood stoves because the turn to a fine ash and helps air get to the wood enitially? but i dont have a wood stove. just a trashbag full of pistacio shells

yeah, nice that the shells are all dried out. Use/save however much u want for soil mulch, save however much u want for your next [perhaps couple] bonfires, compost the rest. Not the worst problem to have

p much what >>21560007 said. Recipe was just basil, olive oil, pistachios, and salt. Real simple. Blitzed together in a food processor. I'm not a huge fan of raw garlic so I left it out but it probably would have been beneficial in small amounts. Maybe parm too. Ideas for next time!
