This. Pizza was never some big thing in Italy, anyways, until they started getting butthurt in the 80s that the wops who crossed the pond were making pizza famous. The difference is honestly what kind of meal it is, in each country; in Italy, it was always just meant to be a quick little flatbread a laborer could grab for lunch, pizzaiolos used to sling their pies outside.
In America, pizza became something much more substantial, an actual meal, not just a light snack. It became dinner, and dinner is better than lunch.
