Cooking some things
Doing my good deed for the week and making food for an elderly neighbor who can't get around very well.
Pretty simple menu:
>Pasta with chicken, peppers, cream sauce, feta
>Tri-tip steak with mushroom butter sauce
>Baked potato, buttered cabbage
>Black bean soup with chorizo

I actually made the soup last night.

Rotini pasta and blistered grape tomatoes in very hot olive oil.

Skipped some steps here but sauteed the julienned onions from the first image, added diced chicken from a rotisserie bird, chopped roasted baby bell peppers, butter, and adding those tomatoes.

Heavy cream. Not yet adding the tomatoes after all.

Those bright tomatoes will look nice on top with some crumbled feta after everything is tossed together.

Everything is very "rustic" as I don't remove skin or seeds from the peppers or tomatoes, the skin on the chicken is in there too. I know how to make it very refined and fancy but that's not how I eat at home.

Looking pretty good. Needed something extra so I did some salt and a squeeze of lemon juice and now it's just right.

In the tupperware and ready to cool while we move on to the other dishes.

Boiled cabbage. Nothing to see here really. A little salt in the water. I'll lightly toss it in butter after it's drained.

Buttered baked potato. Very simple.

I had some tri-tip ends last night that were a little tough. Tasty but not as tender as steaks further in on the sub-primal.

So I split this one lengthwise and I'm going to sear it and slice it.

Good color and a good crust.

Better without the flash.

Mushrooms in the hot oil, steak resting.

Butter and worcestershire sauce. Creates a wonderful aroma against that beef grease.

The beef is good. Really worked out better doing them thinner.

Into the container. He'll have this for his dinner tonight I'm sure. I would.

Well, that's it. I make little labels for each one's lid so he knows what's inside and I present and explain it all to him when I get there.
Two big containers of the pureed soup with diced chorizo in it, the potato, cabbage, sliced beef and mushrooms, and two big containers of the spiral pasta chicken cream sauce with feta and tomatoes.

Makes me feel good. I know a lot of you are bummed and bored and maybe even angry at the world. I know I can get that way. But doing this for someone makes me feel better; like I'm making a difference, doing some good.
I suggest giving some of your time and resources to some pursuit like this if you're stuck in a rut. It kind of helps, and it certainly helps someone else.

You are a poor piece of shit who wants credit for making basic poverty food. Zero cooking skills. Waste of a thread. Hidden.

lol, I guess you won't be around for this reply then. You're exactly the type of bitter asshole who needs to do something good to feel better about himself. Look how you're acting. Everything about your post is negative and incorrect. You need to heal, brother. This place is anonymous. I get no "credit". I'm trying to help you feel better and this is an example. We need more threads like this and fewer about products and corporations. I put effort into my threads because it's the kind of threads I like to see.
Make something, for fuck's sake. Contribute.

Wow everything looks great and that’s super nice of you to make that for him. Certainly better than what I had for dinner lol

That’s very kind of you. A lot of older people eat utter garbage frozen food because they can’t cook anymore and don’t have friends or family around. It makes me sad for the old timers :(
