It doesn't affect me and I've been stable over a decade and no episodes, but I have to cut out anything that could even remotely possibly cause a problem. Which, sadly, probably includes this site. Coors is a decent representation of the generic American lager. Not too sweet, not too crisp, very inoffensive and very refreshing when it's ice cold on a hot day. The more local stuff like yuengling are a bit better, but ultimately the whole point of them is to be able to drink a lot in one sitting for cheap.

This is kind of a non sequitur but euros generally do not understand the American beer experience because they have literally never felt 95+ degree (F) temperatures with high humidity. Beer means something different here, and if you want to joke about "bottled watter", that's by design for the working man.

Yes, even the basic normie lagers differ. Here in Poland the average beer is like 5.5% ABV and no one drinks light lager. It's considered bad for a beer to be too light / watery. The average lager used to be even more full bodied and heavy here, but in the 90s the privatized breweries realized they can cut production costs by making drier beer.
Anonymous No.21653342 [Report] >>21653344 >>21653664
>>21653272
counterpoint to this is that yuropoors generally do not use air conditioning so the average mcdonaldland drinking experience occurs at an ambient temperature 10 degrees lower than in yuropooria where people will sit outdoors and sip zogbier under the star of david when it's 27 degrees and humid and have a couple of beers and it's no biggie, meanwhile americans are getting blasted with 15 degree bone dry recirculating air while drinking pine sol flavored 11% abv sugar syrup and they're still sweating like pigs because they can't handle natural weather conditions

it may be true that 80 years ago americans enjoyed an ice cold lager at 95 degrees F, but in this day and age that is absolutely unheard of considering nowhere indoors is it 95 F and if you so much as open a bottle of beer outdoors in america you will immediately be arrested by the religious police, ergo nobody ACTUALLY drinks le ice cold macro lager like the memes say

American beer is shit not because of some climate difference but because american breweries are retarded and put corn, rice or corn syrup instead of adding more malt. That's why they taste so fucking watery and pissy, the amount of malt flavour is significantly decreased because a significant fraction of the alcohol is fermented from these additives that don't contribute much to the flavour.
It's like brewing a 2% beer and adding vodka to it.
A beer should only have yeast, water, hops and malt (barley or wheat, rarely rye). Nothing else.
Meanwhile:
>bud light: rice
>coors light: corn syrup
>stella artois: maize
>american budweiser: rice
>miller light / high life: corn syrup

Why amerilards put up with this is a real mystery.

>Smithwicks Red Ale
What's been your recent experience with this in Ireland? In the USA export market, I think the changed the recipe a few years ago, and it tasted more like modern Newkie Brown (not a good thing), and it also seems harder to find, like local distributors gave up on it. It's too bad, because "normal" ales like S'muhdicks are still tragically underserved in the amerishart market.

>Smithwicks Red Ale
Many years ago, I worked for a market research company and we did a study for Guinness because they wanted to introduce Smithwicks to the US market. We did focus groups where we recruited people to drink Guinness nitro draft, Smithwicks draft, and Smithwicks nitro cans---all poured into pints. It was awesome, because I could get hammered with the Irish guy they'd hired to pull the pints. End result---no one liked the Smithwicks.

>they wanted to introduce Smithwicks to the US market.
It's still here, just harder to find. Now I'd have to drive an hour to buy it, and they only sell it it 4-packs of jewish pint cans (15oz). No more 12 packs of bottles like the old days. But I still allege that they fucked up the formula somehow, made it less malty and more bland.

We can also get Murphy's stout in 4-packs of jewish pint cans, but it's barely even worth it. Mass-market Irish stout is a "session" beer at best, Murphy's is 4.0% ABV, less than Budweiser, and I think it's actually closer to a "lite" beer in terms of calories, hardly the "liquid bread" that Americans imagine. At least Guinness has the wherewithal to sell Draught cans in 18-packs at a slight discount.

Artificial apple and acetone (acetaldehyde) tells me that you need to give it more time. Either your yeasts died off prematurely or (and?) they did a stellar job immediately and had a rough time cleaning up their shit.

There are variables like how quickly you drink it and how full and hydrated you are, but bottom shelf vodka will have larger amounts of congeners than mid-level (byproducts, like esters, heavier alcohols, and even a bit of methanol) which will increase the risk of a hangover. Some people find the tannins and sulfites in wine contribute to a hangover. For me, most things are fine, but overdoing it on gin will make my bones hurt the next morning.
If it tastes like fuel, you're probably going to wake up with a headache. Drink water (with a hydration pack if you have such things), apply the usual analgesics (a light nsaid like acetominophen, caffeine, and marijuana or CBD if you partake) with a salty carb and lipid rich breakfast, and remind yourself that this isn't good for you.

a local place here in flyover makes cherry wine and other than that I’ve had some “mass produced” blackberry wine sloppa out of washington that I got at world market that was still breddy gud. Otherwise I’ve had (blueberry?) wine in estonia but I don’t think the server and I could understand each other well she just said it was “berry”. I’ve also fermented my own abominations. Plum brandies are relatively easy to find but the actual plum wines seem to mostly be drank in the balkans. Japanese plum wines are usually just backsweetened sake or spirits not actual 100% plum ferments

I’ve had my share of a few off-bottles before (I attribute it to bad handling, maybe they sat for too long in a warm transport truck or something and the taste went off) but most of the time it’s an amazing profile of approachable bitterness, tart hopiness, and tastefully reserved sweetness

Just wanted to say I've successfully quit drinking, had my last bottle a little while ago otherwise would post.
Just couldn't get my credit cards paid down and if I have <6 beers within one hour I get sober within 5-10 minutes.

I'm giving my liver a 6 month total rest and reset and will stick to some limits like 3 beers max on a given day. 6 (one time a week) for the weekend.
As for binge drinking, your liver adjusts after a couple days so I don't see it as one single binge session but like maybe 3-4 days of drinking like on holiday. I think 4 of these a year is acceptable as an upper limit.
I hope to stay within these limits after my rest.

Truly, if your liver is puny, 3 beers is a pretty decent drink.
But damn, right now, I gotta drink at least 15 beers to feel anything.

Good cream ale is extremely drinkable but most craft places that experiment with it fuck it up and leave it with this nasty taste like that vomit chemical in Hershey's chocolate.

Yeungling has made a couple good light beers.

The American Pale Ale is the nation's only decent contribution to beer.
I liked the American Amber back in the day as a staple, though most were extremely weak, but even Fat Tire changed their main label to some shit ass golden lager.

American IPAs are cancer, pure and simple.
Except:
If you lean into adding grapefruit like Sweetwater Brewery,
It's a "cascade" or "red" IPA that's a tiny bit malty,
A good "hazy" "New England" IPA (but God I'm sick of them).

If you're getting by fine without, you're really not missing a whole lot. It helps with my anxiety at functions - without it, I'm pretty Laconic in a room with more that three people in it.

If you are going to test the firewaters, American lagers and hard seltzers are the easiest entry points - fizzy, both somewhat sweet, inoffensive, best served freezing cold.
For cocktails, if you have a sweet tooth, you'll find a lot of things reasonably palatable. I prefer a good balance between sweet, sour, and herbal/bitter/nutty/funky... a good gin with a flavourful tonic and some lime for instance, or a Last Word, or something like an Industry Sour - lots of herbal funk going on with that one.

Like everyone else is saying, you don't know what you want. so what you probably actually want is a Gin 'n Tonic, which is actually really hard to beat as far as mixed drinks go. Like, I've had bunch of different fancy as cocktails with a heap of obscure ingredients, but none of them beat a well mixed G'NT.

The real nice thing is that the drink is simple, you just use gin, some tonic, and some lime if you have any, but you can always upgrade the individual ingredients to make them as fancy as you want. The lime is optional, but you basically always want to use it (adding a squeeze of juice and some of the peel) if you have a fresh one available. It's not a drink that benefits by messing around trying to add more ingredients to it, everything you try to add to it beyond the core ingredients will likely make it worse.

The important thing to note is the ratio you want to mix will depend on what you're mixing. A basic Gordon's + Schweppes Tonic will work best with 1:1 gin to tonic. With 'fancier' mixes, where the gin has more flavor and the tonic is generally lighter, you'll probably want to up the ratio to have *less* gin and more tonic, so more like a 1:2 or even 1:3 ratio.

The real endgame of 'classy' though is fancy wine and whisky.

40 standard drinks a week is the same whether it's from liquor or beer as long as you're hydrated, right?
Anonymous No.21672380 [Report]
>>21671953
I mean... in the same sense that crack and coke or codeine and 14-MM are the same thing. It's very dose and tolerance dependant. 5/5 doctors recommend not drinking those 40 standard units all at once at any potency.
Anonymous No.21672579 [Report]
>>21671953
Let's break this down step by step:

1. Define the quantities:

“40 standard drinks a week” means 40 standard servings of alcohol per week.

In the U.S., one standard drink equals 14 g of pure alcohol, which corresponds to:

~12 oz (355 ml) of 5% beer

~1.5 oz (44 ml) of 40% liquor (80 proof)

2. Weekly consumption:

40 drinks × 1.5 oz liquor per drink = 60 oz of 40% liquor per week.

3. Convert to total volume:

1 gallon = 128 oz

60 oz ÷ 128 = 0.47 gallons per week.

One “handle” of vodka = 1.75 L = 59.2 oz.
So, 60 oz ≈ 1 handle of vodka per week.

4. If you drink beer instead:

1 drink = 12 oz beer 40 × 12 oz = 480 oz of beer per week.

480 oz ÷ 12 oz/can = 40 cans per week.

5. Typical U.S. prices:

Beer (cheap 6-pack): ~$7 40 cans ≈ $47 per week.

Vodka (cheap handle, like Smirnoff or similar): ~$20 per bottle (1.75 L).

6. Monthly cost comparison:

Beer: $47/week × 4.33 weeks/month ≈ $203.5 per month

Vodka: $20/week × 4.33 weeks/month ≈ $86.6 per month

7. Estimated savings:
$203.5 − $86.6 = $116.9 saved per month if you switch from beer to vodka, assuming equal total alcohol intake.

Conclusion:
Drinking 40 standard drinks per week costs about $200/month with beer, versus around $85/month with vodka, saving roughly $115/month—though the health effects are not the same.

I'm drinking a 70/30 blend of penedes methode traditionelle rose with a dao touriga blend table wine. also just had a sip of some THC-infused cold extract limoncello I made a while back. should be a fun night

since I've already confessed to degeneracy, anyone know how to bring a heady, buzzy, sativa-dominant extract to be more relaxing. I got these gummies from a different brand than usual and I take them to sleep but these things are making me wired as fuck. the limoncello THC extract is almost as bad. I think my decarb wasn't hot enough because I think CBN and CBD need a higher temp and I think this is nearly pure THC. so I'm trying to mellow it out with some CBN capsules I got online but they make me groggy in the AM
Anonymous No.21674280 [Report]

Save the gummies for a day when you're looking to get creatively fucked up. Most strains are super high thc and low cbd, so you'd be fighting a losing battle there. CBDA decarb starts lower than THCA, but they're close enough that you'll get both no matter what. 200F for 2-2.5h might mitigate the THCA decarb a bit. Your best bet is to find a high CBD strain, or even buy CBD oil and either mix that in, or use it and keep your bright, energetic sativa extract for days when that's what you're looking for.
There are exceptions on both sides (indica vs sativa) but It sounds to me like you'd get more of what you're after out of an analgesic-aiming indica strain - the high CBD strains (in my experience, anyway) tend to have a carob, date, or chocolate note to them but it depends on the mix of terpenes. Chocolope's an exception, but it can be bred to be high CBD. I've been making Daytime(TM) and Nighttime(R) treats for my dad for a while now. He really enjoys the kush absinthe as a nightcap, and the thai lime-mango-hazelnut truffles when he's painting.

I don't think anyone would ever tell you that Rochefort's a shit brewery, or that the 8 isn't good. I could see why you and some others would prefer it to something as similar as Trois Pistoles, but there's this rum-and-port thing going on under the 3 pistols that I really like. It's like a tiki version of the Rochefort 8, or a really, really good take on a Chimay Bleu.

I'll agree with this one, but you're definitely comparing tart red apples to brugey oranges by bringing in lambics.

It's probably good that we don't all have the same tastes. We'd probably all end up drinking MGD or some shit.

I pretty much only drink sours, but can appreciate a world class trappist. It's all belgian beer, I think it's fair to bring them up. Trappist ales are put on a pedestal it seems. Most of them suck

Different styles entirely. They have (slightly) less in common than a tripel does with an IPA.
That said, it's all a matter of taste. I've had some sours that people rave about, and it was better suited for my chips than a glass, and others that people shit on that were subtle, well balanced snifters of Flemish red gold.

The sours here are shit. Most of our beers are shit outside of a handful of breweries in Quebec, Eastern Ontario, and BC. Too many people trying so hard to outdo the competition that they aren't relying on their noses and tongues.

I thought I fucked this up because it became really inoffensive... it's a vaguely spicy (spice and piquant) ginger-orange-almond 20% pint of "my god, this needs mint, a peperoncino, and crushed ice"

I'll see if the mint's not shit tomorrow and make it properly. As far as split tequila-whiskey bases go, this is... deceptive.

I hate that fuckin duchess
Yeah, they're different styles, but they're all ales that originate from Belgium. I'll compare generally different styles in overall quality, but they are judged to their own style. Like Old Rasputin, for example, is a better quality stout than blue moon is a witbier. It's a better beer regardless of their respective styles

I'm overdue to hit Belgium again. I miss them Phraugs and Phlegms.
I can handle Blue Moon being shit on, but after building an outdoor festival for 36h because shit's hit the fan, few things feel better before a nap at a shit hotel than a frosty dose of vitamin moon.
Maybe that's too specific. If you're the recoverable type of dying, go for the moon with a full-training-wheels shitty gold tequila. If you're actually dying, enjoy the Rasputin.

Trying another wee one to see if I can improve it before I make it right. Double the lime, single spritz of violette, half ounce of curacao, no nutmeg. A little heavy on the tequila and the ice.
I'm gonna pop a pepperoncino in to see, but... shit yes, I'm onto something.

Interchanging between these perfectly well-rounded brews

Brun - not syrupy sweet or obnoxiously nutty, good maltiness
Blonde - Actually refreshing, pairs well with anything

Perfect 6.5-6% so just boozy enough but not overwhelming

Belgian tulip chalice is top-tier aesthetic, shows off colourful body and gives perfect, aromatic head

If you've got a barspoon, they're fun as a black and tan.

speaking of spoons... I turned >>21677687 into an upside down sunrise with some cherry whiskey bounced off the spoon half an inch below the surface. I've completely ruined it / it's great.

Maudite is solid, and with a cool backstory about Quebec voyageurs making a deal with the devil. For some reason La Fin du Monde fucked me up in the form of some allergic reaction, maybe with the lees they use, no idea

it's a similar (probably the same) yeast. There really isn't much going in to them that you wouldn't find elsewhere in dubbels and tripels, aside from the hops. What else did you have that day? Stevia gets me all pink and swollen, but it takes about 2h.

Sorry, eureka moment. The marmalade backbeat in Maudite is the exact thing I'm trying to put at the front of my tiki abortion. The cherry whiskey isn't doing it any harm per se, but I think tomorrow when I get the mint happening, I'll flame an orange twist at it, and pop the rest of the small wedge up top. It's not an orange juice type of drink, but I definitely need to bring the curacao up front in the nose....
Maybe I'll crosshatch the wedge, and pop the shavings in with some cherry shavings to smoke the fucker.

This has gotten out of hand, and honestly ancho reyes is the right move - but chili bitters is all I've got.
