Where do you get your deli meats? I've been buying these Hilshire Farm buckets for years but now they're up to $10 a pound and it's getting out of control. But the deli counter at the store wants $15 a pound.

I like them but my daughter hates 'sweet ham' so I never buy it. I just get smoked shoulder and break it up, or salami. Bacon makes a good sandwich too. I like chicken/turkey but I never ever get it as cold cuts for some reason. I need to train myself to eat it.

get your own deli slicer, cut meats, shoes. you can even rescue cats. Slice so thin you can see through them.

If you don’t mind cutting your own meat just get a spiral ham. The red foil one at Costco is $2.5 a pound (although the weight includes the bone and glaze) and is delicious. Alternatively their oven browned unsliced turkey breast is $5 a pound

Deli meats have gone berzerk price wise
I have taken to buying bags of frozen meatballs and making meatball subs when I want a sandwich
The bags are like $10-20 and have a lot of meatballs in them,
It's more work than a basic sandwich but way cheaper and tastes better

Safeway. They usually have some sale or other on sliced-to-order deli meat I can take advantage of. Example: last time I bought some, I got 5.25lbs at $2.94/lb due to personal price deal (regular $5.99). I had a $5 off $15 worth of deli orders coupons so what would've been $15.44 was $10.44 IE the meat was about $2.09/lb. I packaged and froze 4lbs of it and thawed out each pound as we finished the last. I didn't remember what I got. Either ham or chicken. The reason I didn't recall is that around that same time, I got a $5ish/lb personal price on the other lunch meat (ham or chicken) and a $10 off $25 of deli stuff that I also took advantage of but it wasn't as good a deal as the other.

Every supermarket in my area has store roasted "deli meat" that's nothing more than a hunk of flesh seasoned and cooked in house. It's not expensive but my family and I don't like the texture and flavour of the non-processed stuff so we don't bother buying any except as a deli end. They only have two or maybe three options (not sure), roast beef and roast turkey. They might might might might might also have roast pork.

pretty much all of these style sliced meats of all animal type are reconstituted globs of meat mixed with trash garbage to glue it all together and then sliced to make a tidy circle. its a giant psyop and scam. anybody feeding this in sandwiches to their children is an abuser. get bulk chicken breast or turkey. bake it or boil it and and cut it or shred it then freeze it on unbleached parchment then into glass jars once frozen to use at leisure. will be ridiculously higher quality and how much cheaper it is will shock you.

You can actually make your own deli meat from raw. They sell the little mold canisters that make cylinders of meat. You then chunk up whatever meat type you want, slap it in there, the spring then smushes it all together and cook it.

Out comes a cylinder of NOT mystery meat because (You) sourced it. Then you slice thin and boom - home made deli meats.

The nice thing about this is you can season to your liking and do weird shit like shrimp (it apparently works). Don't want the cure? Skip it, it won't last as long though.

So do I and it's all about the convenience. I don't have to take a number and wait and because of the preservatives, it won't go bad on before I finish it off.

yeah, any deli meat that is smoked or cured and contains nitrates is considered "processed" in this case
everything in your local deli counter is going to be considered processed in this conversation

the real issue is cancer risk has been proven again and again with the largest, most recent equating a slice of ham to +~15% chance of colorectal cancer

also nitrate free cured meats have also shown to have the same effects due to the celery powder having the same effect

why not just order delivery from a more reasonably priced store
last night I even got almost 20 dollars worth of stuff I didn't order, including a 9oz bin of pic.

usually I just buy ocar mayer original balogna

I rarely buy lunch meat that isn't the 2oz Buddig packs because otherwise I never finish it before it goes bad. Sometimes I'll buy deli roast beef if it's on sale but it's rare to find it for $10 or less anymore.

Stock up on Turkeys this Thanksgiving and slice the meat. Better sandwiches anyway. You can probably store at least three Turkeys in your freezer right now.

The independent grocery in my neighborhood has the best meat and deli prices, even better considering gas prices. The deli stuff is usually $2/lb cheaper than Kroger or Meijer for comparable product. I rarely buy deli meat tho, just when I'm feeling lazy. You're always better off buying chicken breasts and roasts, at least around here. Why pay $9/lb for roast beef when you can buy a beef roast for less and not eat extra shit, meat glue, and preservatives?
