I accidentally bought a jar of olives packed in canola oil. Fucking canola oil. They weren't cheap, either. Now my olives are all gross and slimy and flavorless. Products packed in neutral oils are always disgusting so why do companies keep doing it?

Why are canola seeds suddenly safe to consume, I watched this video and then found some links that say canola seeds are good for humans, then some other (including one study) that says they are not safe and only used for animal consumption.

I've never seen oil-packed olives that weren't black/ripe, and they aren't actually packed in oil. They're simply not in brine. They're more like shrively raisins. I love black olives in recipes that are oil packed, from breads to pizza and pasta toppings.

If you have oil packed green onions, drain them befure use an use them in simmery recipes like couscous or picadillo, or inside of empanadas. No one expects you to reuse the oil.
