It's kind of miraculous though. You put things in dirty and they come out clean without you having to debase yourself with handling filth. If only there was something like that for the soul.

Mine is surprisingly quiet but it takes an hour and a half.
I would handwash but I'm tall and hunching over the sink hurts. My wife and kid do some dishes by hand but most of them go in the dishwasher

Good dishwashers have a sanitize option that heats the water up to ~120-150F over a long wash cycle which would scald you if you tried to do it by hand.

I put the used plates, cups, cutlery etc in the sink, run hot water over them to soak off food remains, then put them in the dishwasher. When it's full I run it on a full cycle. I run it about once a week. My machine is quiet. I like how everything comes out squeaky clean.

Not him, but probably the part where you think dishwasher detergent doesn't dissolve in the water used at the beginning. It's not like that powder stuff is time released or anything. Even tablets dissolve some during that first cycle. It mixes with the water as the water heats up, it sprays that shit everywhere a few minutes, drains some of the wastewater out but not completely, refills and repeats. It only drains entirely at the very end. At least in most modern models. If you're using an older one, I have no idea how yours works.

I used one flat plate, one deep plate, one fork, one spoon and one knife. I don't drink coffee, so no cups and teaspoons, and cooking for one is not fun so I usually made stews, which also only costs one pot, one knife and one spoon.

My wife is also part Asian, but different type.
She grew up with rice cookers. My Gran is from the middle of nowhere and didn't even have electricity growing up so she didn't grow up with rice cookers and, as a result, neither did my dad so I don't use them.
They're okay but my biggest gripes with the fucking things are
• how much space the internal pot thingy takes up in the dishwasher
• it can't scorch rice and
• it's generally not well suited for different varieties of rice or grain cooked together because it can't be easily opened mid-cook and if you try to cook multigrain rice stuff in there at once, something will always be overcooked or undercooked

You add the grains in sequence, longest to cook to shortest. For example:
Add wild rice/American rice first because that takes longest then add barley because that takes medium-long then add plain white rice because that takes medium then add broken noodles because they cook quickly then add cracked wheat because that's pretty much instant. All done at the same time and nothing overcooked. You can't do that with a rice cooker.

Many models these days don't have those doors anymore. You just put the tablet in the bottom of the washer. I think dissolving is controlled by water temperature of each cycle or something.
