Never had michigan food but I've had chicago deep dish pizza and it's very good. I see no reason why michigan couldn't have good junk food too, flyover land is literally the junk food capital of the world, how could anyone question that?

It's far from mid. I live down the block from it and I get it all the time, I just always get takeout although weekday afternoons are good for avoiding tourists if you wanna dine in.

There's also Arturo's, of course, and the Denino's on MacDougal, and plenty of other places. I don't care about what's hyped or not, I know what's good.

I can guarantee you that you can find plenty of great Michelin tier Middle Eastern and Pizza restaurants in walking distance anywhere in New York.
As for Hot Dogs, I'd rather have a burger and NYCs Top Chef Chef Burger War is really a fun fine dining feature that blows the fuck out of any chili dog.

The important thing is for mid-tier places to get that famous so that they're overrun with visitors who need their instagram story about eating at the famous pizza place.
I personally don't get why people want to spend their vacations waiting in line, but I also think it's stupid to pile Disneyland on top of two of the worlds busiest central business districts. But somehow it all works out so that I can get on a subway go to work, eat lunch, buy a coat and for about 15 seconds gripe about some line for some thing that I don't care about internally before going back on the subway and heading home to a place where the regarded Michelin rated restaurants need to get drink deals and weekday specials to stay afloat.

Michigan is home of Domino's, Little Caesars, and Jet's. Weird that one mid size state ended up with three pizza chains when the state hasn't traditionally been known as a big pizza place to outsiders. Detroit Style is catching on but those chains all expanded long before the average person in Des Moines or Seattle heard of Detroit style pizza.
