One time I was dieting and brought dates and unsalted almonds with me to work. I found myself full but insanely craving some shitty gas station pizza. I couldn't figure out why since I had my macros covered and had plenty of calories. I thought about it and what I really wanted was the sauce.
There's no salt in the dates. I had become hyposelenic. This had never happened. It's almost impossible to do this eating in America.
Also, chop up dates and nuts and cook then with steel cut oatmeal. Very satisfying if you want a light breakfast. Use milk in place of a third of the water or so if you need more protein.
