Do normal people physically gag when they feel themselves biting on gristle or is it just an autistic sensory overload thing?

it’s much worse than gagging when I get one of those bites. I’m not sure if I have autism, probably not although I do stim a lot

It's a natural reflex when you try to eat something that's not food

gristle is food, could even be tasty if you slow cook it

>gristle is food, could even be tasty if you slow cook it
if it was real food you could eat it raw without having a gag reflex.
the cells in your body know what their food is.

my persian friend said her father's favorite part of the steak was the gristle

I don't exactly gag but it does make me go flaccid.

I think it's about expectations, if I know it's there it's ok but if I was expecting perfection it's hard to get over
Anonymous No.21708145 [Report]
definitely the tism

Dunno why it is that I overcame most of the 'tism and now enjoy a huge range of culinary textures, but when meat isn't uniform I just can't do it. Would prefer ground beef over steak nine times outta ten for this reason.

You're at a formal dinner or on a date and feel yourself chewing on a piece of gristle. What do?
I'm going to do my best to just swallow it.
I know there's prescribed etiquette but interested in what /ck/ would actually do.

I hold it in my mouth until no one's looking and then subtly spit it out into a napkin when no ones looking.
In emergencies I try to swallow it whole without biting on it.

Raw meat makes me gag

I would spit it out, which is probably why I never get invited to these things

I chew it up to get the flavor out then I drink water to swallow it like a pill.

>gristle
define gristle some people seem to call fat gristle, some people call cartilage, and some people call silver skin gristle. which one are you talking about.

just so you know it's cartilage.

and no it does not make me gag. peas, yes.

I don't see any gristle in the picture. I see fat, and maybe silver skin

Cartilage. I can't stand the rubbery feel of it.

I never had a problem with it but that might be an autism thing in and of itself.

I think it tastes good to chew on and don’t find it to be bad texturally.
Anonymous No.21708832 [Report]
I inspect the meat beforehand with a strong flashlight and excise the gristle with my pocket scapel

I'm in the same boat. I won't discount steak but I'll always stick with leaner cuts, some of the mutant-looking ribeyes I've seen people post make my skin crawl.
Most Asian food is a nightmare for me because it tastes so good but they always seem to just go berserk with a meat cleaver and throw everything in instead of doing "cuts" like in the West. I get that they like cartilage and weird textures over there but I just can't do it.
