The omegaverse is a deeply autistic genre of fiction often related to mpreg yaoi where humanity is divided into a hierarchy of tops and bottoms determined by the sexual traits of its member and is inspired by the reproduction of dogs and wolves, including heat cycles and knots. In this genre, people can be:
- Alphas: 100% dominant tops who do not follow anyone's orders (unless it is an alpha much stronger than them) and produce pheromones that make everyone else literally bow down before them. The only thing that can disturb them is the smell of an omega in heat, which causes them to behave “ferally” with a desire to mate completely dominating their minds.
- Betas: the normalfags/NPCs of society. They are submissive to alphas, neutral among themselves, and dominant with omegas. They are secondary characters in most stories, orbiting alphas and taking charge only when alphas are not present.
- Omegas: the human equivalent of a bitch. Not only are they physically incapable of dominating others, but they are also weak to the pheromones emitted by the other groups. In addition, they go into heat like animals, becoming especially physically weak and attracting members of other types.
Some authors add original groups such as friendlier and more cooperative alphas, “super alphas” immune to the pheromones of other alphas and omegas in heat, among others.
In the omegaverse, it is possible for men to reproduce with each other (don't ask how). Alphas can only impregnate others, betas can impregnate each other and impregnate omegas, and omegas cannot impregnate anyone and can only be impregnated by alphas and betas, making the whole hierarchy inherently sexual.
