Ok finally caught up, and not a bad start but honestly unlike spider-boy nothing to interesting either.

First note is, how does she have webs again? bailey doesn't have webs or the knowledge to make web fluid and she only temporarily gets the power/knowledge kind of weird she could just make them.

Also think they really need to give her a "hero moment/origin" we now know she has a mom so she really makes even less sense as a character. Before I assumed since bullseye could just take her she must have been some type of orphan or foster kid like bailey was at the start. But her having a mom makes her origin and situation even weirder.

Another thing is the fact she is 10-12 years old but is just allowed to live in new york alone. Like who's her guardian and why is a karate guy who was defeated by a rat man so special she stayed in New york. I think she should get reconnected with bailey or become silk's protege as bailey is spider man's

But first big thing they need to do is nerf her powers, get rid of the information gain. As just being able to negate and steal the rat men power to control rats to control them is insane and makes her lowkey invincible. But add on to that gaining instant better version of powers and a persons whole life story is just to much.

So far it has potential but she is like most new female mcs, she has no rhyme or reason. No dead parents, no call to action, no trauma or backstory. As we already know she used to be evil just for fun and she loves showing up people and winning just for the love of the game. So she has no real arc or faults as she has no qualms with being a mutant or hate for her power so she uses it so freely to win making her kind of bland.


Overall a fine first issue but they need to really hit the ground running if they want to keep from being canned. Though I honestly don't know what you can or should do with maka?

No, she wasn't. In her first appearance she looked maybe college aged, but never talked about going to college or anything. She was a girl from the FEAST Shelter that Spider-Boy saved, and her parents told her to keep an eye on Bailey. Two months later she was appearing in Spider-Boy, and was pretty obviously in his age group - a couple years older, but in the "7th grader hanging with a cool 5th grader" sort of way. There was nothing in the writing of those early issues to suggest she was, for example, a college student looking out for a 10 year old. She enjoyed going bowling with him as another kid going bowling, not teenager looking after a grade schooler.
It's certainly possible that Slott completely rewrote the story between her first and second appearances, which we separated by only a couple months. It seems substantially more likely that Slott's script said something like "Christina Xu: A girl a little older than Spider-Boy," Ramos made her a LOT older, and nobody thought it was worth the time and trouble of changing the art.
I could be wrong. But I'm pretty sure she was always intended to be his slightly-older peer, and we just got some artistic crossed wires.

Her only real flaw is living alone and bullseye but even that hasn't really been established or fleshed out. Why did she trust bullseye so much and why would she think he's now after her? Also is it confirmed only 12 issues, or you just saying because most series only last 12 issues now?

Damn not moralfag, this why I say we need to stop the spin offs. As all they ammount to is every character becoming generic. I still say she'd been better as bailey's devil on his shoulder or as kind of a rival/anti hero he has to stop or get help from. Imagine her and bailey hunting down bullseye and she wants to kill him but bailey has to stop her boom instant conflict. Both have same goal but different end routes.

Well that's apples to oranges, as she could never truly look at his eyes especially depending on continuity. Remember in one version of canon he doesn't even have "eyes" but rather he's linked to a universe of pure kinetic energy. That's like trying to look existence in the eye, so why I said maybe it'll work maybe it won't. As we also must think about how scott's eyes even in normal canon are basically walking nuclear reactors

As long as he's wearing his ruby quartz visor/glasses his eyes stop blasting.
The ruby quartz cancels out his powers.
It gives off an aura similar the psionic field that his body emanates that protects him from his own powers (that's why he can close his eyes and the blasts stop. Or why he can cover his eyes with his hands)
