My ongoing theory from back in the day is that the then current president of CN at the time preferred TTG over the other types of programs that were currently running on the channle because her vision of CN was for it to be more infantilized and therefore attempted to break neck it into being more for younger kids by spamming TTG and drowning out the older but currently running at the time early 2010s cartoons to less and less time slots until they only had airings for premieres during sunday nights with little to no ads for the premieres. Also around the time of the spam in 2017 alot of CB show were becoming alot more safe and inoffensive compared to the harder edged early 2010s CN shows. This was the era of we bare bears and craig of the creek and summer camp island premiering. And in the end her dream did come to pass-cartoon network had its own preschool block in the form of cartoonito for a while. What exactly makes these gags infantile in TTG but not in any other show? Besides waffles, potty humor and/or meta jokes are in plenty of other cartoons. And to reiterate, neither were common in the earliest period of the show where it got its most hate. Also, with the way you mention them you would think they've been in the show since it's entire run, but there's less than 10 meta episodes and waffles has only been brought up like thrice. My guess is that they probably wanted to push HBOMax. This was when streaming had a surge in interests and at that point, everything was on there, so they briefly made it the TTG channel to make people check out the streaming site. If you think that the you didn't actually watch it. The third season had many good episodes. That was the first time people here made threads to talk about the show in a good way. Even /co/ liked Oregon Trail and some of the Island Adventures episodes. Also, it was the season that introduced the night begins to shine dimension and everyone loved it.
