>>149071888Cartoony animation doesn't work with serious stuff unless it's as stylized and unique. It honestly feels like that time when SpikeTV greenlit a bunch of cartoons from Nickelodeon creators and artists and all those shows just fell flat, they looked good (except Gary the Rat) and were stylized (NOT Gary the Rat), but they had awful to mid writing.
For example there's a reason there hasn't been a super successful attempt of an adult Ren and Stimpy reboot because it doesn't work as an adult show because they aren't held back and aren't as creative getting around the rules.
The fun of having adult jokes snuck in was because they had to get creative and actually think, with adult cartoons you can just do whatever within the TV14-MA rules and it just loses its charm and humor. That stuff is only funny if it's like a 4 minute video, not 22 minutes.
It's why I prefer they get really experimental with Adult animation, show me something I've never seen before. Stop making comedy dramas and wannabe Family Guy clones. And quit making faux anime crap and copying what the Japanese do.
That's why when there's an adult cartoon it always takes either the Family Guy route or Vivziepop route.
I just hope Pinkie Davis's new Fox show breaks that trend.
