This world is imploding. Thereโs also that poor attempt at imitating anime that the film is going for, it shouldโve been 2D, some of the anime-like expressions in the film give off uncanny valley vibes when 3D, I donโt like anime in general but even I know how to make it appealing. Sorry homos, you can sit this one out.
>>149081104>Theirs a tigerDon't forget about the crow who steals the little hat Jinu made for the tiger
>>149068512 (OP)It was fun and cute, gorgeous animation, but the third act heavily carries the whole thing. I do like that its a film where the main protagonist hides a secret that does actually hurt her relationship with friends and family (as short lived as it was) instead of being instantly accepted like Pixar and Disney movies.
But so much from everything else is just alright. You can tell the movie was retooled from an R-rated film to a standard Netflix family movie by how several scenes are characters delivering exposition on the world, how they feel, and their flaws. Like they cut out many scenes showing those flaws and emotions, and decided to just say it to the audience, so they get the message. And the woman who raised them is so nonexistent in the movie that she may as well have been cut out. She's like in 3 scenes, and yet she is responsible for everything in the movie. Though maybe they saw that generational trauma is overplayed in animation and decided to move away from that. Maybe not the worst call. It's so funny how this and Elio both release the same day and they are both original films that retooled their entire movie after getting further along with it. Just goes to show sometimes you need to stick with what you got.
But I will give it extra credit for having good music and a good enemies-to-lovers subplot for once in Netflix's life (and a straight one? Inconceivable). Animation deserves to go to the big screens but plot wise it is 100% a Netflix movie.
>>149078050No offense to the movie, but if it does then its gonna be a very bad year for animated films.
>Demons are victims of a tyrant
>Actually no theyre not, its just one sad boy who feels guilty and the half demon girl, lets kill the rest with no mercy

>>99% of modern kpop(but I dislike both kpop and jpop in general).
>>149082008Being victims doesnโt give you right to hurt others. They were in the right putting them down like dogs.
I overall enjoyed this, but i can see the flaws.
I think i would've like to see more of the past hunters and more of Rumi's relationship with Selene.
So how was it? I don't get Netflix
>>149082057But if they are all evil because the evil dude makes them then its weird to end the movie killing them all, especially when a hero is part demon and spends half the movie accepting the truth is more complicated
>>149081040Those are either shorts or an artistic shadow, either way they aint panties
>accept that their friend is part demon which by some proxy means accepting that not all demons are evil
>still kill them and seal them away without hesitation
kinda messy with that but other than that a pretty open and shut case for a decent film.
>>149082679On the one hand they didnt do the dumb Adi Shinkar DMC ploy of "demons are misunderstood victims of war". On the other, making a struggle for the protagonist throughout the film that she begins to see that not all demons are evil, only to end the movie doing exactly what she was instructed to do from birth....is weird. They could have easily ended the film with the heroines either healing the demon world into a decent place or turning the demons into part human too so they could live normal lives. It made as much sense as the bs they pulled last minute.
>>149082590Itโs black panties

The people that were snatched up by demons, did they ever show back up again or are they like dead, dead? Never really was clear what happened to them.

>>149087138dead dead, labeled as missing persons in universe
>>149078094Nobody cares about cantopop and Japanese record labels were autistically resistant to promoting jpop overseas. Like many of their YouTube uploads were blocked overseas and their albums were rarely if ever available outside of Japan.
Also jpop was already sort of kneecapped right out of the gate because people would hear it and just think it's anime music
>>149068512 (OP)It was alright but it wasn't anything special. There's a lot you can improve on in a sequel if it gets one.

>>149081601Are you sure it's not the opposite? The third act was supremely rushed. Mentor lady is suddenly bad for trying to hide demon girl despite the story conceding that demons are insurmountably dangerous. Demon girl is instantly forgiven. Demon king, who apparently has no design past the smoke, is vanquished with no gravitas. What did demon boy giving his soul do exactly? All the build-up was better than the actual finale which just fell apart.
>>149082057You have no right to say this after peddling your own /co/mblr victim complex bullshit for years.
>>149082389I think the nature of the hunters should have been further explored. How are they recruited? Why is it only women? Do other countries have demon problems that require warrior-musicians?
>>149078212webm of Rumi's feet please

>>149078094As stated, the Japanese record labels are extremely draconian. For a very long time, they had zero interest in courting overseas audiences and would actively police attempts to distribute their stuff overseas. Their anxiety regarding the internet also applied to their home market. They'd make proper music videos something you'd have to buy on a disc and only stream a cutdown promo clip.
Most of that has changed and they're using anime as a trojan horse, but it's all coming too late to be k-pop popular.
>>149085746It's a Netflix movie. All artists have <30 days to grift off of this movie's publicity before any art tied to it gets zero attention.

Rumy learns to embrace who she really is as part demon despite there being nothing good about being part demon (given what we're shown) and in the end they just seal off the demon world, making the whole conflict around wether demons can be good basically irrelevant. I also kind of wished some scenes were paced out a little better, it's hard to explain but some scenes felt like they went by way too fast, like the doctor visit, the scenes with Rumy and Celine, and especially the last third, but most scenes in functioned well on their own, mainly the comedy stuff. Also, was Rumy a rape baby? How the fuck does a half-human half-demon exist? And why choose her to be a devil hunter?

>>149093417The most generous guess I can have on their thinking is that her development is accepting that she can show all of the truth even if it's negative, because it's only her getting the job done that ever matters and the demon evil of her dad doesn't have power as a shackle in the end. I'm guessing Rumi inherited the perfect vocal talent for it from her dead mom so she was going to be the best candidate no matter what
>>149093494>her development is accepting that she can show all of the truth even if it's negative, because it's only her getting the job done that ever matters and the demon evil of her dad doesn't have power as a shackle in the end.I can see that, and that's probably what the intention was. It just seemed more like a "This is who I am and i accept it" type of moment, especially since she keeps the marks at the end of the movie like she's proud of them. I'm more annoyed at how little information we get about how demons work and if there's other people like Jinu. >>149068512 (OP)KPop and the rampant plastic surgery that goes on over in Korea disgusts me. All the KPop stars got it, I know a bunch of Hollywood celebs get it too, but over there itโs apparently between 1/5 and 1/3 of the general population that gets it done too. Any Korean I see online has this weird uncanny look to them and oh god, that procedure to widen the eyes, I donโt even want to look up images of it
>>149094293It sucks, because eastasian girls with almond eyes are cute.
>>149094217Female idols are "allowed" to publicly be known to be in a relationship once they hit a certain age and get seen as a veteran. But otherwise yeah it's financially a shot in the foot for female and male idols to mix on a show and it's like the movie brought in the fanshipping that movie or television show fans are way more likely to do
>>149094313Figured, most male fans wouldn't want to see their favorites date some other dude.
>>149094290I was hoping for some Zoey art.
>>149094065Because the word comes from the French "Bande" back in the Norman days and was used for any group of entertainers, including actors. It is just more commonly used in modern times for groups that play music but that's never really been it's meaning.
All sorts of fun words like that where (mostly American) people forget it's original usage. 'pudding' is fun one (pic related).

>>149092854In terms of animation and music yes, but narratively they are on the same level
>>149094696honestly I'm really tired of shippers writing things in general
they live in a deluded world
While the opening fight was pretty cool i found myself wondering:
Why would they still be in the air so close to show time? they should've been at the venue hours ago for sound check. Even if the plane landed normally they can't land a plane at the venue so they would still need to get there from the airport. And what happened to the multiple parts of the private jet that torn apart in air over a populated area?
>>149095078I honestly found way more unrealistic that they are allowed to snack
I assume the pets being alive by the end of the film implies some demons are still around
>>149095078We know the demon can pose as the girls and other people. So I imagine they just pretended to be Bobby or a Flight attendant and gave them the wrong time or plane.

>>149095005>>149094217some missed potential here that they could have incorporated into the movie

>>149095611i feel like its good to at least poke fun abit at the flaws of the industries maybe with a joke or a refrence, makes the movie more grounded too
>>149095626yeah, idealizing the pop star life made me cringe a lot during the movie, but it's for children so I kinda understand why they went into that direction
>>149082389Same, maybe tie in the supposed Flame demon king having some history and lore
>>149094110yeh, I guess they were just bad demons with nothing else to them, kind of wish Jino and his members talked more about the whole demon vs human thing
>>149095078We can only hope that the pieces of shrapnel fell in the ocean lolol
>>149094138>accepting a disability or deformity.that sounds like a "autism is my super power" situation. I guess I see it more in a generous light than before, it's still just weird how other demons are just shown as completely evil by the end, even thought they suffer in a similar way to Rumy
>>149085746Rymy should of had tits this big in the movie
>>149077238something about the way they do these expressions feels very obnoxious to me
>>149096421Going by what little lore we got, Rumy is ashamed of her identity, while the demons are ashamed of their actions
>>149096630>while the demons are ashamed of their actionsThat's true for Jino, but was that the explanation for the other demons? Sure they have some quirky moments but for the most part they just want to eat souls
>>149096687>>149096630Actually, based on the prolouge, it seems like the souls of people that are taken from demons turn into demons by the evil smoke dude, which is more fucked since they didn't really have a choice
Rumi and Jinu held hands. That means they had sex.
I like girl K-pop more than boy K-pop, and not just because I like cute girls. I just feel like the music and dances are usually better
I want a Manhwa sequel with gay sex
>>149068512 (OP)I'm not at all a fan of K-Pop. How much is K-Pop a part of this. Will I be annoyed by watching it, or is the K-Pop element mostly just part of the name (like Groove Adventure Rave which had nothing to do with rave or club culture).
Chances this gets a sequel? Had lots of fun, reminded me of totally spies
>>149096687i feel like the monstrous ones are people who had their souls stolen and converted into demons.
I also think the Saja Boys were all living people who sold their souls:
Baby- Eternal youth
Abby- Hot body
Romance- Get girls to like him
Mystery- Dog who wanted to be a human
>>149097748It's a semi-musical, there's like 4 girl songs, 2 boy songs and then a duet
I say "semi-musical" because some of the songs lyrics serve as storytelling
>>149097926Probably, itโs doing well on Netflix
>>149098145> semi-musicalthen semi-dropped
not for me, but you all enjoy!
>>149098022>i feel like the monstrous ones are people who had their souls stolen and converted into demons.Wow, just like my Manwha.
>Mystery- Dog who wanted to be a human>people shipping Zoey with a dogOh, no. Mystery is a weird one as he can sing just fine, but still barks.
>>149097926The way it ended makes me think it probably shouldn't have a sequel, as it wrapped everything up in a neat enough bow(aside from the fall out with the stepmother??? Celine, never being resolved.) And they beat the big bad, so what could they possibly do in the sequel?

Looking back, it looks like the mother and daughter that were saved at the beginning of the movie from the demons by the Hunters, were actually Jinus mother and little sister. So they didn't die. Wonder if the little sister became a Hunter later on.

I've now watched this and wish it was a two parter, end the first with Rumi going burn it all down and confronting her adoptive mother then pad out the second half with Rumi actually saving her friends from the demon king's voice before the big end of the world concert as well as properly embracing her demon half instead of just randomly losing the physical changes (eyeball and hand) in the final song.
>>149099642Doubling down on this because thinking on it we also got no resolution on why Rumi can't hear the voice or who her father was. Coulda easily done a big thing where she was the Demon Kings bastard.
>>149099642In an ideal world, it could've just been a mini-series like Arcane. But I can't imagine giving them the budget, considering they didn't want it in theaters.
>>149078094K-Pop has actual government backing (for it and the Korean entertainment industry in general). The government recognizes the need to diversify its economic assets beyond Samsung (17% of S. Korea's GDP), and its ever shrinking manufacturing that pairs with its shrinking aging population.
That's not to discredit that K-Pop had organic growth and int'l adoption regardless. Then there are some other factors. Higher performing music exporters like Sweden [3rd after UK&US] don't have as strong an identity. One can easily mistake Abba for American, and no one cares that Max Martin secretly wrote so many top 100 pop songs. It's easier to latch on to and by nature of being somewhat forced feels more like a singular genre.
>>149098455I unironically think it could've made more than Elio at the box office, which is sad for Elio

Honestly baffling.

>>149100082>K-Pop has actual government backingKpop is literally a psyop to spread the glory of korean culture all over the planet. Not that it doesn't have artistic or cultural merit. Just that it's inherently artificial.
>>149093909Soda Pop is basically the demons telling their fans how they see them. "We're here to eat your soul like you eat junk food. And you're going to pay us for the privilege."

>>149072824Is their manager supposed to be gay? He acted a little bit fruity when he put on that bathrobe.
>>149100525It's probably because due to Korea's declining birthrate and super conservative culture. They didn't want to push the envelope.
>>149095509You couldn't make a demon hunter movie in this historical period given what Japan was doing to Korea at this time.

Enjoyed the movie but is it just me who thought it was way too short? Everything happened so fast and then it just ended. It needed atleast 10 more minutes
>>149121664The ending was too rushed, they should've left it more open-ended with the demons and had them just win one decisive battle or something instead of killing off all the Saja Boys, etc. The ending messaging was too decisive with all demons deserve to die when they were building up to more nuance. I really liked the film for what it was, basically lightweight fun entertainment with some nice visuals.
My sole problem with the film is the conflict over Rumi's reveal was resolved too quickly. If it had happened earlier in the film, we could have gotten some nice Rumi v. Mira angst, maybe with Zoey and Bobby trying to be peace brokers. Maybe even Mira going after Jinu on her own.
And yeah, I wouldn't mind a sequel.
People seem to like Zoeystery
A closer look to Huntrix's Norigae (traditional Korean decorative pendants)
>Mira's Norigae has both Rumi and Zoey charms
Cute. CUTE!

I'm really liking the Filipino dub a lot. They translated all the songs too in such a way you could hardly tell they weren't the original song.
>>149121895Sinners was about putting up a facade for the Kpop-stans to maintain the barrier between the human world and the demon world?

>>149123665Definitely beats the half baked Japanese dub. I'm really just as interested in how the other dubs did the songs, and as it turns out, most did not.

>>149124402English is really just the base line. It's pretty good not gonna lie, but its also funny Lea Salonga is in the English dub but not the Filipino one.
