I never really clocked that as "weird". Some people don't heavily favor one parent or the other, I don't. It's honestly stranger to see all the animated examples of characters who are 1:1 copies of one parent or the other but smaller, which is rarer. Maybe that's the reason seeing a character who actually looks like a product of both parents feels unfamiliar and uncanny.
