Agree on the story overall, pretty formulaic. It was fine but nothing groundbreaking. The songwriting was really good though, and most of the dialog imo.

My only nitpick with the animation is that it felt easy to miss stuff during some of the really frenetic scenes like the bathhouse fight, where there were shots & fast cuts with a lot happening on-screen all at once across multiple characters. Maybe an issue with them trying to pack a little too much into certain shots? Didn't happen too much though, just one or two that stood out to me.

CGI films have to put in like 100 millon minimum to look good. CGI films just have better returns on a film level. Any animated film from Pixar/Disney can and will succeed if it's actually good regardless of how much marketing it gets. Frozen literally had one of the worst initial marketing campaigns in Disney history (they tried to do snarky Dreamworks type ads focusing on Anna being single/desperate) and no one was excited to watch it and it only started building up hype after the few people that watched it thought it was good. I felt the setup of the demon barrier thing being made permanent forever with the song Golden was a miss in the storytelling department, raising the stakes too high too early. From the way they described the generations of hunters in the prologue, I thought it was going to be more like a deal where every generation has to renew/rebuild the barrier after they take over, and this story was going to be about the new girls refreshing or rebuilding the barrier for their generation. I was going to say no, because the Smile demon thing is way more fucking bullshit than anything they battled in the movie, and the girls still had an entire train of people killed when they were right there at the scene. They're good at fighting demon, not saving people, and Smile is just some asshole creature that keeps killing it's hosts to spread rather than bothering to fight so it would be like playing whack a mole, only the moles are whacking themselves before you can stop them.
