I think I can kind of understand what they were going for. Talon was entirely motivated by revenge after her mom’s death, and holding on to that anger and desire for vengeance isn’t healthy and would definitely have gotten her killed. I feel like they just didn’t have time to properly address it in the end. They apparently already have a script up for a second episode, so we’ll see if there’s any followup.

Only ever played the arcade version of it at a resort in Kentucky. I sucked at it, but it stuck in my mind because the concept was fucking brilliant. No you silly willy, we ask the question: why? Why and how were they imprisoned, why is the crystal guy releasing them and why do they want him dead yet are willing to bargain and train new champions? Will the new champions get imprisoned as well when they stop being useful or overuse their power? There is potential for a cool backstory here OR a possibility for a convoluted mess full of awful tropes. I hope for the former, but when a character tries to kill someone, then tries to kill his child recruits and then actually kills soneone, only to finally go with the plan of the guy they were trying to kill in the first place and train the child soldiers, without even trying to explain their motives to the newbies, it feels like the latter.

You could have easily changed this to just having her mother get badly wounded and thus left out of the beginning of the hero journey instead of trying to LBT it and make her start with the loss of a family member
I'm totally on board with more dino time and think I like the audacious nonsense of the premise being Land Before Time meets VLD but the constraints of this being a small timer indie project do show already with the aforementioned light speed pace of certain developments

The forgiving her for killing her mom thing is dumb especially when Razor doesn't get his development or closure. If they were going to make most of the dinosaurs non-verbal, I was hoping the idea was they gained the intelligence to talk rather there being dinosaur-speak and elf-speak. Unless Razor also become a guardian, they are never going to have closure unless they think having half of a heart-to-heart hidden in dino-speak is a good idea.

Primal Rage's controls might have been pretty janky, but the setting, characters and stop-motion animation for that game were pretty great for the time. Combined the best of Conan's brutal sword and sorcery elements, post-apocalyptic settings that aren't nuclear holocaust, and giant monster fights.

Plus, you could also eat neo-caveman worshippers for health refills mid-match. That was a pretty neat mechanic.

Remember those cool and capable 90's mascots who had all their shit together, often leading crime fighting teams? That's not what this is about.
This is about a young naive leader trying to be one of those, but woefully inexperienced and screwing up all the time. It's not played off as parody, we learn of his imposter syndrome that he's afraid to confess to the others, but doesn't get how long the journey is and just wants his development done quickly.
Him and the others have legitimate reasons behind their ambitions and putting in the effort to better their abilities and themselves, and come together as a capable unit. Their mishaps can be funny, but I want the audience to attach to the fact they're trying. There's 3 other mains with their own stories and faults.
It's not the most complex thing of all time (though I'm still learning how complex the production process is), I just grew attached to the characters and world, and want to tell at least one story with them.

This reminded me of a book I once saw in a book shop as a kid. The cover was a human guy on the right and a tall green T-Rex in a suit on the left looking at him angrily. I'm more surprised Warner Bros. hasn't done anything with the franchise other than letting NRS put a few Primal Rage arcade cabinets in the stage background for the last two Mortal Kombat entries. Speaking of references, remember when Donkey Kong Country 2 blatantly advertised Killer Instinct in-game? It was kinda funny since the game was rated 18+ where I live. In the 2000s, you had to be careful even naming 18+ games, in non-18+ media, which included censoring game names in gaming press.

Its also incredible how ambitious they were and had to scrap features like a level editor or the feature to use the Game Boy Camera and then use that Pokemon Stadium cartridge plugin to slap your face on the characters in multiplayer.

I never finished Camp Cretaceous (three seasons in I think) and haven't seen Chaos Theory yet. Pretty good from what I remember. Characters had more depth than the ones in Rebirth.

To bump the thread I will say that the pacing kills a lot of the goodwill I have for the generic writing, because you can't really sell something like this as genuine when you rush past everything. If this didn't have magic dinosaurs it would've been completely forgettable.

Luckily, it does have magic dinosaurs, and that's enough of a novelty factor to carry it. I might even donate them 5 dollars.

What struck me on the way back home was how it didn't at all FEEL like the Jurassic franchise, and then I realized I would put money on this being a scrapped Monsterverse project dug up and stuffed into a dinosaur costume
Like, bros, the D.Rex is LITERALLY just a MUTO from Edwards' 2014 Godzilla movie, and they even redid the opening scene of Walter White's wife being stuck behind a door in the nuclear facility while he looked on helplessly. Just with a gender flip
Also, fucking SERIOUSLY? A fucking SNICKERS wrapper getting stuck in a vent was the downfall of the facility? I thought at least there would be a dynamic what with the suit up and such that the Distortus would be far less dangerous if the researchers remained scent neutral and the candy wrapper would end up drawing its attention
I'm starting to reconsider as type whether I actually dislike the film less than FK and Dominion. I actually DO enjoy aspects of the World era, and Rebirth just kinda did NOTHING for me

We can partially blame Midway for killing the franchise after they acquired it in the buyout of Atari. Apparently they thought it would draw sales away from Mortal Kombat at the time.

It's a bullshit excuse because the concept behind combining dino-gods and other giant primordial beasts with a post-apocalypse and Conan-esque sword and sorcery has far more creative avenues than the gimmicky martial arts soap opera that MK was becoming by the early 00's.
