This is the first season they’ve made completely without Roliand right? Well clearly he’s been more involved than they let on. Even just improving and those retarded little characters like Garbage Goober and Tagman and the rhyme villain guy did the show a lot of favors.

There’s 0 of that here and it feels a lot emptier and less “Rick and Morty” I think the citadel episode was the best one so far and it feels like a scrapped or remade episode from before Rolliand got the boot.

The episodes are fine and not god awful or a sign the show is dying. But they're also making you feel like you wasted your week anticipating them. They're just sort of there. The plots play out very predictably. There's very little in terms of memorable moments or lasting consequences.

I mean, it happens to every show, especially one where high concepts are bound to run out and life not mattering will eventually make nothing matter. Still, that spark the show used to have just isn't there anymore. The characters are familiar and the wacky sci-fi tech are open ended enough to make for anything goes. But in a world where you can do anything, they're coming up with very average things.

There's hints of it. The meta opening credits had Tricia crying in the background of the funeral where he died stung of bees, so assuming it's not just red herrings like the pregnant Summer stuff, the context is there.

Also the dinosaur episode right before that meta episode had a mp4 file on jerry's computer called Beekeeper's Delight that he mouses over but doesn't click as he's trying to find his old manuscript, implying his muscle memory goes to that file a lot. Maybe it's nothing, but this is an animated show, everything seen was put there for a purpose. Whether or not they've backed out of that purpose is unknown, but it's there.

This nothing show was a surprise splash that got a lot of attention over ten years ago. In that amount of time it quickly hit the wall, and has gradually been losing all goodwill that will pick up again. It's quite literally in it's zombie era now, even if it's not immediately apparent.

Just think of that moment in season 1-ish where Rick was making that machine to kill himself while that dark pop song played in the background, or the whole "unexpectedly travel to a new dimension and assume new lives" thing from the season finale. The show, in it's current form, will never hit highs like that again, and those weren't even that high of highs.

We're never getting a plot like Evil Morty again. Never getting awkward, sexy hijinks with Jessica, never getting anything other than Summer, Beth, and Beth being snarky bitches while Rick stumbles around being their sidekick and Morty is a non-character except for his alternate universe selves showing up every once in awhile to remind us of how wacky the world is.

Look, this show doesn't consider most things canon, it has even shown spite for fans who focus on making every little thing canon. That is a trait of the show I've never liked, but I'm sure they draw the line at treating every single joke they make as 'potential canon' and I would agree with them on that. If we act like every single joke they make, especially after credits, is some special and deep hint at CANON (which they traditionally seem to despise), you'll be digging for crumbs and looking under hundreds of rocks. The show makes dumb non-sequitur jokes and laughs about pee, poop, and farts. It doesn't take itself so seriously as to treat a singular joke as such a big deal. If they ever bother, it'll just be mindless pandering to fans who have been focusing on that for whatever reason. They should sooner reference any number of more important things in the show's past. It upsets me that this ep might be consider just the right amount of psychotic silliness and (probably accidental) fetish bait that it might overwrite the perspective on the season to now be a glowing one. That may not end up fully being the case here, but on the wider internet it wouldn't surprise me to see it happen. Lessons can only be learned with negative critique, and the show still has to improve in so many ways.

Honestly at this point all of the points you've made also undo any argument you could make against teen Beths finding Jerry hot other than you just wouldn't like it. If anything it's the most likely outcome because it would be:

I already like modern R&M more than most people do but this season has been surprisingly good without a single episode I dislike unlike the last few. Even Season 4 which I hold in a higher regard than others already had the stinker Dragon episode happen by this point. I genuinely expected this episode to suck or at least only be bearable with the family plot but the Beth plot was surprisingly enjoyable.
Maybe I'm just too open to slop but I'm too attached to this show to admit it's going down the drain yet.
