>>149287647 (OP)I agree, though mostly from my own tastes, since whenever a writer has something worthwhile to put to paper I'm willing to read as much as they have to say to get a full understanding rather than just what is acceptable. For example Manhattan's reflections on his perspective are fascinating even if they don't move the story forward, Veidt's philosophy is interesting to frame his intentions even if his actions are ultimately deranged. If either were boiled down to just illustrated feats of power and plans like in Doomsday Clock the original series would have been less for it even if it saved on text.
But I also agree because I absolutely detest decompression, whenever I can tell a writer is stretching out an idea to reach a higher issue count so a run or event seems heftier with less work I'm immediately dissuaded from purchase. It's another reason why I'm so impressed with Watchmen, it packed so much about so much into 12 issues instead of trying to go for 50 or 100 just to coax collectors into assuming length = significance. Don't get me wrong, this isn't to suggest any long running thing is worse than shorter ones, it's about the content and density therein, not just duration.
