Sue's mother is a lawyer, and she's very succesful. Paulo's life circumstances and her's are not similar at all. Moreover, she's so far away from Paulo's standpoint that she cannot even understand his situation in any meaningful way.
There's a BCI called "Sob Story" in which Sue tries to take an interview with Paulo to write about underprivileged students in her school, but he just keeps telling her that it's not a big deal to help his father financially or rise with the sun every day because his neighborhood doesn't have a school bus.
Sue lacks empathy needed to understand that Paulo's boasting is exactly what she seeks: a sign of his trauma. Instead, she is furious that he doesn't reiterate liberal stereotypes she's been raised on.
I think what she hates the most is that he has a different perspective on things, especially on things that are closer to him and should therefore be even more "clear" to him than to her, not vise versa

Amaya takes Sue's hand with a concerned look, startling Sue, who then apologizes for making Amaya worry and says she's fine. She then gets annoyed again and says that she is totally fine and is glad that Jessica is getting recognition for her work, then begins sulkily drinking what appears to be a juice box of apple juice whilst Amaya continues to look at her worried. All in all, a rather tender scene which is reminiscent of the comic's better days. The juice box may in fact be orange juice, however I am unable to rule out grape. Fruit punch is right out though, that much is certain.

It'd be an excellent opportunity for some dramatic irony: the audience knows that Lucy's hostility towards her friends isn't just banter, but genuine insecurity and resentment. But for the characters, realizing that Lucy doesn't think of them as friends would be a real gut punch.

On a meta level, it'd also draw a line under Lucy's hostility and paranoia being way past justified. Lucy's paranoid anger causing Lucy social problems she can only solve by not being so paranoid and angry, which is the more positive of the two logical endpoints for her character arc.

What drives me up the wall is how well that plotpoint has been set up (strictly in terms of BCB), and yet there is a strong chance that was completely unintentional or will get tossed out on a whim. Lucy's insane PTSD dream-driven attitude toward her friends is completely unfair. Augustus chasing Mike away is just a band-aid solution. It certainly *looks* like Lucy is canonically nuts and in the wrong here. Even her relationship with Mike appears to reinforce this. All Lucy cares about is whether or not Mike is dating Sandy. The mountain of stupid, terrible things they have done to each other could not matter less in her mind. Another Flame showed that if Mike just stayed away from Sandy, Lucy would immediately take her place back at his side, paying only lip service to past sins. Nothing about that is rational. Lucy *must* be wrong about this, because common sense demands it.

...But Taeshi lacks even a hint of common sense. What she does have is a strong aversion to logical progression and organic drama. Much as I would love for Lucy's whole world to get turned upside down when she's diagnosed with BPD, I just do not trust Taeshi of all people to earnestly tell that story. More likely she'd just chicken out again, make up some bullshit, and move on to focus on lifeless feelgood drivel.

I can't complain about that too much in itself, since I keep saying this comic needs more b-plots and downtime. But it's sabotaging that by having the b-plot ALSO be assholes making everyone else miserable and getting away with it. I just want a few short interlude slice-of-life chapters. Mike playing videogames with Sue and Abbey, or embarrassing Haley by talking to Abbey while he's sitting at Jasmine's table. Y'know, something that would make them feel like actual friends with common interests.

I think that's fundamentally what's missing most from modern BCB. It was always melodramatic, but the ratio of drama to slice-of-life was better, and made the characters much more sympathetic and likeable.

It's not out of character. Way back after she had just returned, she used her Ferris wheel ride with Paulo to force him to attend Daisy's birthday party. Ever since she's come back, she's insisted on being the mom friend that knows what's best for everybody (and tolerates no disagreement on this). No, this doesn't really mesh with how she also insists on violently pushing everybody away, but the pattern is undeniable.

I think the only real argument to be had is whether she deserves to take credit for Paisy, given how things went down. Like she kind of just accidentally goads Daisy into screaming in Paulo's vicinity and then he walks up and announces himself as her boyfriend. I wouldn't give her that many points personally but I don't think that's the intended read.

But that's more down to Lucy being bad at being an empathetic or helpful friend. Any time she tries to fill that role, she comes across as dismissive and judgemental at the very least, and sometimes she escalates all the way to screaming hostility. But Lucy's INTENT was definitely to get Daisy and Paulo to stop being out of character and get to sloppily fucking already.
