Mesoamerican history nerd here, I could write 5-10+ page writeups per episode breaking down all of the historical and cultural influences and neat references in Onyx Equinox

Here's a 25 minute video on the first 3 episodes my friend helped with I also worked on to a lesser extent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y2R3l94Hps

Also, I haven't watched the whole show, but "A Simpler Life: Ayohuih Nemilitzli" and "Showdown at the Mayahuel Gardens" episodes of Victor and Valentino are quite well done with how they use Aztec architecture (or modernized revivalist takes on it for the latter). I suspect that the staff on these, especially the latter, might have actually seen some posts that friend of mine did on Twitter, or my posts here on 4chan since they clearly used Scott and Stuart Gentling's paintings as a reference and the Gentling's art is hard to find outside of our posts.

Imagine being an expert in Bronze Age military history and working on Family Guy. Literally zero hope of ever getting to do anything with your vast and intricate knowldge, your years of work reduced to drawing a baby getting fucked by a dog.
Then, suddenly, you get it. Out of nowhere, your big chance, your chance to prove yourself. And it all pans out. Your designs are made official, people notice them watching it and praise you online.
What a lucky guy.

Most ancient Greek blonds were probably of the strawberry or light auburn variety.
The Greek word "xanthos" can be literally translated as "yellow", but in practice it meant something closer to "orange" or "tawny" (Alexander's hair must have looked similar in color to a lion's mane). My educated guess is that, at the time, platinum blonds were likely seldom found outside of Scandinavia.

As an aside, concerning reddish hair (which is Central Asian in origin), it appears to have been unexpectedly more frequent and widespread back then, popping up even in North Africa, of all places.

I think /pol/tards who believe everyone in ancient Rome were supermodels are dumb asses, but Americans who insist on including west africans and descendanted people are equally retarded. The majority of Rome's ethnic constitutions consisted of Mediterraneans, Southern Europeans and North Africans who were very similar. Erasing that history for the sake of American identity politics is as flawed as Wignat delusions.

That I agree with, the Wild West was actually quite diverse (both ethnically but also politically), with Whites, Mexicans, free blacks and various Native American tribes all fighting and occasionally cooperating with each other, also most cowboys were disproportionately Mexicans as well

I'm aware of that. A Syrian official in Roman Britain is a result of a radically different political organization, and it doesn't mean there would be a large Black or Chinese population, they could have lived there but those people would have been rarer, but it's strange that certain people erase Rome's North African and Middle Eastern heritage.

>I assume that gold triangle was stolen no long after it was installed

On the contrary, they were probably left alone for a couple thousand years!

The great pyramids had a kind of religious significance that the ancient Egyptians took very seriously, as well as being a point of civic pride. Perhaps more importantly, they represented a continuity of greatness that Egyptian rulers of all sorts liked to point to as proof of their own greatness. The Ethiopian pharaohs of the XXVth Dynasty, for example, maintained them and built their own smaller ones nearby, to demonstrate that they were the legitimate heirs of the ancient kingdoms.

The Great Pyramid was constructed somewhere between 2600 BC (give or take a century). It was very likely intact by the time of the First Intermediate Period, when the empire decentralized into local governments around 500 years later. There was some grave looting during that period, but it doesn't appear that the physical structures of the pyramids were themselves looted.

Almost 800 years after the end of the First Intermediate Period, Ramesses II the Great ordered restoration work on the already-ancient pyramids, as part of massive building projects during his reign, and the records indicate that the exteriors of the pyramids did not need any replacements but only some repair work to the limestone cladding. A document from his reign states that the kings were still in their pyramids, undisturbed.

Plundering may have started during the Late Period, what we think of as Classical Antiquity, the last centuries before the Macedonian Ptolemies took over. Or it might have happened under the Ptolemies. We really don't know. All we can say is that they were probably intact around 500 BC, but by the time of the Roman writer Pliny the Elder in the 1st century AD, the gold cap on top of the Great Pyramid was gone.

So the gold caps don't seem to have been stolen for at least 2,000 years, maybe as long as 2,700 years!

>The majority of Rome's ethnic constitutions consisted of Mediterraneans, Southern Europeans and North Africans who were very similar.

Present-day Southern Italians still reflect those ancient demographics to an extent. Around 30% of all contemporary Italian patrilineal haplogroups are of combined Near Eastern and North African ancestry (half J2 and half E1b1b, respectively), their highest frequencies being found among the populations of the southern regions, so the results of genetic studies pretty much align with what we know about the Roman Empire and Mediterranean history in general.

The Inca aren't Mesoamerica: They're an Andean civilization, like Caral, the Chavin, Nazca, Paracas, Moche, Wari, Tiwanku, Sican, Chimu, etc, who are all in Peru and bits of Bolivia and Ecuador. Mesoamerican civilizations like the Aztec, Maya, Olmec, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, Mixtec, Purepecha etc are in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, primarily. There's like 4000 kilometers seperating the Aztec and Inca capitals, as much distance between the Aztec capital and Canada, or the West and East US coasts, or London in the UK and Baghdad in Iran.

That said, my favorite Mesoamerican civilizations are Teotihuacanos and Aztec, because Teotihuacan and Tenochtitlan are just really fucking sick cities and I like the architectural style they mostly share a lot (The Aztec actually excavated ruins at Teotihuacan and intentionally made a kind of Teotihuacano revival style in their art and architecture as a result)

the third reich was multi-ethnic by virtue of featuring other ethnicities like the french and slavs within its conquered territory. it was not multi-ethnic in the sense that all it's subjects were on equal social or legal footing.
and stop playing dumb, the amount of foreigners of another race in any given tribe was usually minimal, and the presence usually concentrated in their own quarters, port towns, etc. With a few exceptions more races were still very isolated from one another.

It's more than that. The Germans were in the active process of eliminating any group not considered Aryan in the territories captured. The final goal would have been an ethnostate which is the opposite of being diverse.

I like your version, and all, but it could also just be that for all that Family Guy is shitted on, somebody there said:
>Let's actually ask an expert about this details and listen to what they have to said, it can't possibly be that expensive
rather than a more typical for movies
>We have experts on set the whole time!
as a publicity stunt that actually means they were there, sure, but just in presence.

I remember one expert on a hard science that spoke about being called to be the specialist on a movie about a certain topic, and how much the final decision just came to whatever the person in charge felt like doing, and how little they paid attention to him.

Also reminds me of this, rather infamous, sketch:

I'm not a faggot, but you're a mega-faggot who couldn't go five minutes without talking smack to your betters. This thread was doing well without my intervention because of faggots like (you)

Not really 'predicted'. A lot of times when you see old media "predicting" something it's because the problems are starting at that point.
You can find angry European propaganda about the US ranting and rambling about chewing gum because chewing gum was THE "America product that signifies America is taking over the culture of the world" before Coca Cola came along

2006-2011 run. Hex encounters whites, Mexicans, and natives and kills his way through them all for varying reasons. Even his dead wife is a Chinese immigrant

Asterix is in a weird place. It's fiction but it gets enough core stuff right that I learnt a shitload of history from it.

It's the Neoclassical extra high nasal bridge and deep-set eyes, coupled with the squarish face. Without softening and rounding up the features somewhat, they can end up giving female figures an androgynous appearance. In this case, however, that might have been the intent: to make Lady Liberty seem strong, fierce, and Amazon-like.

I haven't, I don't keep track of non-english mesoamerican media much, though I'd like to start.

Email me at saintseiyasource@gmail.com, I'd like to get updates on you scanning it, ask questions about your workflow (me and my friends also want to scan some content), and maybe assist with some stuff if time allows

That said expect days, weeks, or maybe even months to go by without replies to some emails at times, I'm very busy with stuff. Also I think maybe that email of mine got locked, but I have fowarding set up so I should still see the incoming mail in my other inboxes and I can still reply from those.

I don't scan the series, I rip digital versions from izneo and just typeset with photoshop. Have a look here if you are interested in finished products: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/d67984yufn8b8/The_Snake_and_the_Spear

I have scanned books before though. But I debind my books first, which is pretty destructive, so you might not be into that. If they are actually bound with string, I cut all the string with a scalpel and slice the folios in half (unless they are double-page spreads). If they are glued like manga, I just heat them up with a hair-dryer or heat gun until I can pull the pages out, but not so hot that the glue gets everywhere.

Then I just scan at 600dpi on a good flatbed scanner, calibrated with a colour target which you can do cheaply and easily by following this guide: https://www.the-ninth.com/blog/scanner-profiling-on-a-budget

I don't do any heavy cleaning up on the scans, I just crop and rotate them in tankroller, which you can find here: https://quicksandscans.wordpress.com/resources/

And apply a bit of levelling in photoshop, e.g. make the blacks black and the whites white if black and white in the case of manga.

Lastly, I will usually reduce the size to 300dpi, export it all, and pack it up into a cbz (just a renamed .zip) or cbr (just a renamed .rar) and release into the wild.

What are you thinking of scanning?

This: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/8vc0eywtcqx7i/Scanlations is my main folder of scanlations.

I can't think of too much else I've scanlated that involves mesoamerican stuff. Issues 1 and 2 of The Time Brigade has some time travellers intervening in 1492 and 1493 to make sure that history goes roughly as recorded. We, the Dead is a very silly series, in the 1300s Europe succombs to a great plague, which turns everyone into zombies. 500 years later, the Aztecs are doing well and ruling over most of America, genociding Lakota, subjugating Inca, etc. one of their princes goes to Europe to look for the secret of eternal life.

For untranslated stuff, this thread on bedetheque has quite a few series to look at: https://www.bdgest.com/forum/azteques-incas-mayas-en-bd-t96647.html

And one I am looking forward to is Les Sentiers d'Anahuac: https://www.bdgest.com/forum/les-sentiers-d-anahuac-dytar-t108978.html

You can download lots of scanned French comics from https://ebdz.net/ but it uses the old emule filesharing network, if you can't be bothered with the faff to set that up, libgen.li has a lot of that same content.

I'll try to read this over more later, but I do want to say that I'd still like you to email me even if you felt you gave enough info here, I like having a way to get in touch with people who work on useful stuff in the off chance there's a reason to speak to them again.

Do you read/speak french, on that note, since both the comics you've brought up are in french? I do know there's a few solid looking french Mesoamerican comics I've wanted to do some stuff with before, and I wanted to try scanning or ripping digital purchases of some of the voyages d'alix volumes, though IIRC I got most of those a few weeks ago, I think (I know there's multiple Maya volumes and then a combined reprint so I might still be missing some of that)
