I think that shot was supposed to be comedic and I also think it's a huge stretch to claim Burton and the MPC VFX team "knew exactly what they were doing". They were making their own interpretation of Violet's demise, and after Burton was dissatisfied with initial filming with an inflatable suit, decided to make the transformation and rolling scenes in CGI. The whole thing was crunched out within a matter of months and they wanted to make it as grotesque as possible, all while staying within the constraints of a family film aimed primarily at children.

Hollywood's weird as shit, sure, but I think it's nuts to believe there was any other intent with the 05 scene beyond its mix of absurd body horror and physical comedy. While I won't deny its influence on me and many others, I think it's weird to push the "they knew" narrative when that isn't what was happening behind the scenes. There was also one guy who proposed the "juicy couture" theory and I think he's wrong too, by the way. The film was just Tim Burton being Tim Burton, daddy issues included.
