My oc is a rando poorfag in his fifties trying to get by doing "freelance work" for those who can't hire a sanctioned assassin. He has no training or a license. Where sanctioned assassins resemble Agent 47 in dress and operations, he resembles a cyberpunk mall ninja but lame and mundane for his time. His ninja visor is a regular mask he bought from the covid store. His enhancements are actually orthopedic aids he bought from a sports store and his work duds are worn streetwear. His weapons are repurposed energy tools from Home Depot.
Because of his economic state he takes various petty jobs that devolve into misadventures, such as delivering unmarked packages or beating people up for a few bucks. But he has been involved in killings. If the assassins' guild finds out, he is going to get targeted.

I think it's mainly to to help lower attention span / reading orientated viewers understand the story of the show. I think it's literally just going to be a webcomic version of the exact events of the series, which will likely help some people who complain abput not understanding what's going on because they missed things in an understandably high intensity, fast paced short mustery plot animated series that doesn't spoonfeed a lot of direct viewers to viewers who don't rewatch and hunt details. The webcomic format is a lot more forgiving in that it can make things a bit more obvious without shoving information down their throat, and it's less effort for lazier viewers to go back to previous foreshadowing / context earlier in the series that informs your understanding of later events. So it's not like Liam has to be directly involved if it's just the show but retold in graphic novel form. Would be nice if the art was directed by Liam though.

I think the most you have to worry about is maybe some little forced messaging bullshit from whoever this webcomic creator is. And even then, just cross your fingers because I really doubt Glitch would let them shit on MD by adding dumb bullshit.

As for your actual question, we already know from a very old QnA (I think it was after Episode 2?) talking about the series production for the full year after the Pilot that the show was initially going to be much more Slice-Of-Life with the eldritch horror mystery stuff happening much more in the background. Episode 2 was going to be a stereotypical zombie apocalypse kind of deal, each episode was going to be a sort of "monster of the week" formula. This was back when Glitch was clearly still working out their whole business model of bringing in Youtube creators as showrunners and making their show - Murder Drones was their first go. Shortly after the Pilot Liam told Glitch that they'd be much better off getting right into the actual true wider eldritch horror plot so they produced Episode 2 - 8 as we know which was definitely the right call. I don't think MD would have been nearly as successful if they went with the original plan, even if things were different it there were going to be multiple seasons.
