I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. The animation is certainly worse but the characters all act like themselves. The simple fact that this is a reboot where the male lead isn't ritualistically humiliated puts it ahead of most other modern reboots. I love seeing Hank again.
>>149714714 (OP)I agree. Other downside is Kahn's new VA, but other then that it was entertaining.

So according to the wiki, Hank is 41 in the original series. That makes him only 49 in this new season. Do people still retire that young?
Also in the original run he would have been born in the late 50s, making him a Baby Boomer. But now he would have been born in the mid-70s, making him part of Gen X.
>>149714732Yeah, Kahn's is the worst. Joseph sounds a little older and less high-strung, but that makes sense. Dale does a good job at trying to replicate the original but it'll never sound quite the same. The rest are pretty minor so it doesn't matter much.
anyone else feel like the comedic timing is way off?
Conni being poly isn't the offensive part to me, its the dating Chane Wassanasong. You're telling me that of all the Fraternities, of all the boys in Dallas, Conni starts fucking the 1 Laotian boy from her middle school she already knew (and hated).
>>149714714 (OP)Finally, a non-ragebait KotH thread. I agree OP, I enjoyed it a whole lot and though it’s not quite the standard of the early show it’s pretty damn good. I can forgive Dale’s voice because his VA was literally on his deathbed and it’s easy to imagine Dale’s own smoking would have had a similar effect over the years. Kahn’s new VA is pretty bad however.
>>149714904I did for the first episode, that made me fear a bit for the rest of it but I thought it was more or less instantly fixed in the second. I hope the poor start doesn’t cause too many people to drop it because after that it really picks up.
>>149714782Doing work in Sowdye Araybiah on oil wells can earn a lot of cash. Retirement early is an option feasibly.
Why did they make joseph a junkie
>>149714782I feel like they’ve slid the different generations differently. Like the kids have only aged 10 years or so but the adults have aged 20, meaning they’ve only pushed Bobby’s generation’s birthdates forward and not Hank’s.
>>149714817>Dale does a good job at trying to replicate the originalNo way, Dale was terrible. He can't emote at all. I would have preferred they just made a voice that fits the tone of the character rather than poorly imitate the last one. Though, Johnny wasn't sounding too great either in the lines he recorded.
>>149715056There is no future where Joseph wasn't going to turn into a trashfire of a human being.
>>149715056Realistically a hard drug addiction was in that kid's future
>>149714714 (OP)Agreed. It's slow at first, but by the end of its season, it's so great. Even in 2025, Mike Judge still hasn't disappoint me as of yet
>>149714732Yeah, Kahn's new VA is so off. At least Cleveland's new VA (like it or not) still sounded like the original VA. That's the only huge flaw I have with the new season.

>>149714714 (OP)Hey, remember that time Peggy and Luanne watched a man who was in the midst of a total psychotic break fall into a mechanized slaughterhouse, get his brain zapped and became lucid just long enough to recognize the fact that he was about to die horribly via a goddam spike thru the skull, and then he did, and they both saw it in all its gory horror, and they just walked away and never told anyone what happened? I'm honestly surprised at how many people in twitter still believe Jonathan Joss's murder was a hate crime
With so much information available about his extremely violent behavior (such as the time he threatened his ex-wife with a gun and shot at her bed's headboard), as well as him and his tranny boyfriend being pyromaniacs who tried burning their own home multiple times and even recorded those attempts, you'd think people would've realized by now that he was a crazy, violent, derange asshole who deserved getting killed

The only way to get through this season is from your nostalgia of the OG KOTH and wanting to see your favorite characters again but older. There's like no episode that has any rewatch value. Even the newer and more sterile seasons of KOTH during its original run had some charm to it that made them memorable enough to want to rewatch. This season is so boring, the animation and artstyle is shit, the voice acting took a major hit, the plot lines are only worthwhile for maybe one watch because you have nostalgia for the original series.

Yeah, it's fine. Laughs came often in the first episode or two and then started diminishing. Compared to other recent reboots/revivals, this was good. They weren't standout episodes that I'd specifically choose to watch again, but I probably wouldn't mind it at some point in the future.

>>149718958Emilio is his sou chef so Emilio probably gets paid pretty decently. A lot more than a road worker at least. So i still maintain that Bobby is probably still the one paying for most of the rent and their expenses.
Also Bobby seems the type to pay his workers better than average. It would explain why they all seem to really like him. So Emilio is probably doing better than most in his position.
>>149719165According to the leaks that's not gonna happen. The Connie and Bobby dating subplot is gonna stick around for a while
>>149719165I doubt it will since the leaked story board shows them sleeping together at the Hill's house for some reason. This season also ends with them seemingly back together and with Bobby wanting to get to know the "Adult" Connie instead of just the "Kid" Connie he still had in his head.

Okay, I know that there's been a lot of talk about Connie being a slut now and I'm just on the 8th episode, but is the whole "open relationship" thing basically a farce for her?
She's only in a relationship with Chang to make her parents happy because he's rich. She hasn't yet been shown to actually have taken advantage of the open relationship, while Chang definitely has. So I'm not convinced she's slept with Chang or anyone else for that matter. She says Bobby isn't "ENM" material, but later admits in a note that she meant he's marriage material.
>>149719351Well, she did it for her father, but I wish the writers had made her do something less grotesque like trash his office.
>>149719391Episode 8:The end of the episode when Connie breaks up with Chane very strongly implies they've had sex
>>149714714 (OP)Willow >>>>> cuntie
Change my mind
>>149719391I do think the entire thing was just a way to cope with the fact that Chane was fucking around pretty much non-stop and the EMN stuff was a way to turn it into "Well. He's at least not cheating on me."
She did likely have sex with Chane, because it would be way too unrealistic if she didn't.
Episode 8 also showed she didn't want to become like Minh who got married at 21 and whose marriage ultimately fell apart, so she's probably scared of being truly committed.
>>149719450>>149719415wtf, his name has been Chane this whole time??
>>149719391I think you are mostly correct in your assessment, Anon. A lot of people just like taking shit out of context and turning it into outrage bait. The ENM stuff is absolutely just cope from Connie's POV and while a lot of people are saying Connie's note was stupid and basically saying Bobby was the kind of guy to settle down with after fucking around, I took it more as a kind of cry for help on her part that if Bobby was really interested in a serious relationship she'd dump Chane and quit the ENM shit.
>>149719391I thought she was reintroduced after having being out slutting at the frat
>>149719391Pretty much. Seems like she doesn't want to be in a relationship at all and this is some sort of compromise to keep up the appearance of a relationship without any of the usual baggage. It basically just an open relationship with a modern liberal label. They're both obviously doing it to keep their parents off their backs. Especially Chane.
>She's only in a relationship with Chang to make her parents happy because he's rich.Specifically because he's Ted Wassanasongs son
>>149719391It's Connie dealing with Chang being an absolute douche and letting her have a no hassle relationship that her parents like.
>>149719550I feel like they made The Wassanasongs way more rich than it was initially implied in the OG series. Yeah. They were implied to very well off, but Ted states that the entire funding of the Restaurant just comes of a percentage of what Chane has for his recreation budget.
I wonder if they are ever going to give a flashback episode for why Chane decided to convince his dad to give Bobby the money.
>>149717476Chane is obviously still a douche though? Almost every time we see him he asks if people know who his dad is.
>>149718985Just have it be a random new character is what im saying
>Hank canonically didn't vote for Obama
Interesting
>>149719550>It basically just an open relationship with a modern liberal labelIt becomes especially obvious that they're just dressing up that Connie is a cuckquean with progressive terms during the actual breakup, when she's upset that Chane is just going to leave the failed anniversary party when she needs some support and he starts bullshitting about how her dumping emotional labor on him is making him feel unsafe and blahblahblah
>>149719665Did anyone legitimately believe otherwise?
>>149719415Maybe, it’s still not clear. Chane says “we can still meet up later to have sex if you want”, which could mean they already have but also, it’s Chane, so he’d tell any girl that he’d have sex with them.
Connie seems to be fairly disgusted by Chane in general. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking but it’s hard for me to imagine her giving her first time to some douchebag.
>>149719665Did you ever imagine he would? He's a Reagan/Bush republican, he surely would have preferred McCain or Romney over Obama. I can only see him writing in Jeb from 2016-2024 though.

But then this new season basically says actually even your wife and daughter will abandon you too. Literally minh was born in wealth and kahn had nothing and he found a way to make something and both the women in his life hate him for it.
Kahn is a tragedy
>>149717846True, and sad especially since kahn actually was the only one working in that family and now he's living in the garage in his retirement. Honestly makes me wonder whenever I see super old dudes still working if that's why, they lost their retirement/pension to their wives.

Peggy is treated way more rudely and is just as oblivious about it.
Bobby isn't as respectful as he should be to Hank, I know he's technically an adult, but I feel like I wasn't nearly like that with my parents until I was almost 30.
The more adult nature of the show in terms of cursing, joking about killing oneself, etc is unnecessary in my opinion.
Bill being a shut in should've been a gradual thing over the episode instead of just leaving the house because Hank was cooking burgers, something that Bill undoubtedly ate hundreds of times while Hank was gone.
I haven't gotten to Kahn yet, I'll withhold judgement until I hear it.
>>149715074I would've preferred if they used an AI filter or something to make the closest Dale impersonator they could get sound nire like Dale, instead of whatever we actually got.

John Redcorn has like 1 minute of recorded lines the entire season. I wonder if Jonathan Joss had become too deranged to work with so they had him do the bare minimum.
You were staring at her cleavage the whole episode, weren’t you?
I was.
>>149720971I mean it was only 8 episodes and theres alot of characters. John Redcorn just doesnt have alot to do anymore in his old age. Kinda wish he was written off as a famous musician thats touring the world or something so he can atleast have a happy ending. They could even integrate Lucky i to it. Big Mountain Fudge Cake 4 LIFE
I had pretty low expectations of this new season.
I am happy to be wrong and that a revival actually seems to be hitting more than missing. I've seen so many revivals that just missed the mark entirely that I had convinced myself the concept itself just isn't feasible.

>>149715884I feel the opposite. The back half of the season when it starts to focus on Bobby and Connie is when it really hits its stride and the weakest episode is the one with absolutely none of it (the Andrew Tate episode).
>>149718817I think the best thing would be to have her show back up and start dating Joseph. They'd probably make a really fun couple. Just say that she and Bobby remained friends or something.
>>149720792>Chane the bully gets to own a restaraunt and make bobby work thereThis isn't true you disingenuous fuck. Ted is the only one that has any say in the restaurant. Chane rarely shows up there and is happy to let Bobby do all the work and only ever delivers direct orders from his dad. Bobby only ever worries about getting on Ted Wassanasongs bad side and never Chanes probably because Chane actually likes that Bobby is good at his job because that keeps his dad off his back. Chane has a geniune interst in seeing the restaurant succeed
Chane is a douche but he's not a bully. At least not anymore

Joseph was hilarious this season. I thought from the trailer that he’d learn that John is his father and reconnect with his heritage or some bullshit but nope, he’s a complete dipshit and is taking after Dale in more and more ways.
>>149715679>>149716245I was actually sad to see their relationship evaporate so quickly. Watching her really get into football with Hank was nice and she did well to bring him and Bobby together. They threw it away for a cartoonish gag.

>>149721183Yeah, when Bobby talks Chane up to Connie, it does feel genuine. Hank and Bobby are both weirdly sensitive and understanding of the shit Asian men go through, and their cultural norms in general.
>>149721319I'm glad they didn't frontload us with Bobby characters. But I do want to see more of Emilio.
>>149717181on top of that, the way hank approaches the cookie stand is a bit over the top, like he wanted to flip the table over
but i think what it wanted to show was that even though everything has changed, the people are the same. too bad that's not actually true in real life haha
>>149721215I like how he seems to be exclusively into milfs. >>149717076They then proceed to forget about it the following month.
>>149721358After actually watching this season and learning that Connie hadn’t become a whore after all, I’m going to say yes.

The highlight was the note she sent saying Bobby was more marriage material than someone to be in "that type of relationship" with.

You even point out she called out Connie for how dumb ENM is, and while that's what the show desperately needed, her quickly inserting into someone else's conversation with their friend saying shit like "she just wants side dick" "yeah, they only do it to get side dick" is also not friendly at all. You guys are way too lost in your own desires. The character sucked outside of like 5 seconds where she had a normal conversation with Bobby and another 10 seconds where she was interacting with Hank about the sport. Even Nancy can have good moments but she's still an awful person.

Give a guy she doesn't like a chance to make her parents happy but not have to actually commit to him. It's no wonder she immediately jumped to Bobby and explicitly said she would never want to have ENM with him--she actually likes him.
>>149721736>reminding him that his dad can fire himThat's right. Ted can fire him. Not Chane. Chane has to use his dad's name to have any real authority over anyone which just shows how little Bobby or anyone takes him seriously.
>>149721728This show has always sucked with female characters, before the original run ended they even casually tossed out the implication that Minh has cheated on Kahn and it's as big of a secret as Nancy/Redcorn (though of course the divorce needs to focus on how pathetic Kahn is so that's not even going to be why it happened since it was a gag.) Without Luanne around it really feels like we've lost any likeable anchor so I'm not surprised people are desperate enough to where an anon said Willow reminded them of Luanne, despite how different they are and that the writers are clearly coming from 2 completely different places in including them in the show.

>>149721829That doesn’t make him not a bully
I wonder what the plan is for the restaurant long term, I assume Bobby and Connie being together will lead to conflict with Chane of course.
I think Bobby should have stayed with willow for one season at least though, too quick to pair him and Connie that fast.
Better to contrast him having a pretty normal healthy relationship vs Connies ENM mess, reverses the usual angle of him chasing her
>>149718026any man who's a big enough faggot to get his hair dyed purple would also color-coordinate his outfit
>>149722133Doesn't make him one either. No one is scared of Chane. Again he's a douche but a relatively harmless one on his own.
>>149722200I honestly don't think Chane will give a shit. It was an ENM relationship and it was just really a matter of convenience for both of them since Ted probably wants Chane to ultimately marry a Laotian girl. Ted is the one who ultimately makes the call and if Bobby is keeping the restaurant performing above expectations then Ted will probably just tell Chane to deal with it because it will only benefit Chane in the long term because the restaurant is a business technically under Chane and looks good on his resume.

Regardless of Connie still looking a bit closed off Willow oddly acted like she never said any of that to begin with and they still made it come off like some heartfelt ending with them all walking out there.

>>149723876Exactly and what makes it worse I finally genuinely started to like minh as well like the gun episode. It's like both of them fully regressed. Also weird to do since wasn't the last ep the kahn depression ep, so now kahn will end up even worse
>>149724030I do as well feels like a proper ending at least to give him something in all this loss. Plus now he on their level anyway.
>>149720812Basically seems like it sadly, and even worse he's more subservient to Ted when one of the big things was supposed to be Kahn and Minh finally made it in so they stopped caring. Really both got fucked
>>149721183I never said he wasn't but he pulls rank on bobby like twice and my point is Chane gets to have a say in bobby's stuff and he is still a asshat who will benefit from bobby's hard work as he parties. Never said he was as bad as in school but he does fit the "work monkey" thing where bobby is working his ass off while Chane reaps the benefits. It's more just calling out that the Wassanasongs kind of get to stay at the top while others like Kahn and Connie the likes are fucked by the writers. Connie basically being a slut or willing cuck for Ted is insane to her character
>>149721419Oh not happy about it, but was talking specifically about kahn since most already talked about bobby and him being weirdly excited to date slutty connie. Also how the Wassanasongs basically get to still be on top and do it via others like Connie and Bobby. It is a bit of a bad end

Finished it tonight.
I will say its not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.
The stories and dialog are okay.
However, it is still not that good.
It is worse than the later seasons of Kind of the Hill (post-season 7).
The animation is bad. Probably the worst complaint about it. I won't day the animation is lazy, but it definitely is less effort than when the show ended.
The thick outlined characters vs the normal background is jarring.
The animation is the same "less effort" as the two times they tried to bring Beavis and Butthead back. There really is now excuse for it.
The voices are worst for the most part.
Hank, Peggy, Boomhauer and Mihn are fine.
Everyone else is either worse, or miscast.
Despite Johnny Hardwick finishing the season it seems, he sounds robotic and phoned in. I don't know if its Johnny dying or he tried to sound older to match an older Dale.
Joseph's voice actor changed. Its not bad its a voice that didn't need changed that much.
Khan doesn't sound like Khan. I think they changed his voice actor to a gook to not culturally appropriate, and made him do a normal voice. Fucking gay.
Ted Wassanasong's voice is changed to, and there was absolutely no reason for it.
Bobby sounds the same, and thats actually one that should have changed. Nothing crazy, but Bobby shouldn't sound like a 13 year old boy like he did. They changed so many voices, changed so many actors, but they didn't change the one who aged the most.
As for the stories. Meh. It wasn't too heavy handed in its liberalism, which I was afraid of, but it did do what I expected. Too much "look what changed while we were gone", "how do you do fellow kids".
I don't like Chang being Bobby's boss. I don't like that Connie even tried dating him. I don't like Connie being an open relationship whore.
I know that all the king of the hill chatactera are adults now, and all the fans are too, but I didn't like how "adult" they made it. Now the chatacters talk about sex more and swear more.
>>149724808It's genuinely not true though. Uber Drivers literally get better ratings for shutting up and minding their own business.
Why did they make Connie so gross now but also don't want Bobby to drop her?
>>149724658I don't think it was conveyed accurately even though it was executed well. I don't know how often people expect conversation with whoever is providing them a service. I would think given how sheltered younger people are they would be adverse to small talk, not desperate for it. People are still open about their struggles, don't get me wrong, but it's moreso people are willing to announce if they're gay or allergic to nuts or have ADHD. Twenty years ago sharing anything about mental illness was taboo. Now everyone is struggling with some mental affliction.
new season is 15/15 for the sole reason that Hank isn't always right which is what made me hate late KOTH
>>149724927I like how Hank fell for the buy high and sell low meme.
>>149724827>Bobby sounds the same, and thats actually one that should have changed. Nothing crazy, but Bobby shouldn't sound like a 13 year old boy like he did. They changed so many voices, changed so many actors, but they didn't change the one who aged the most.Yeah, this bothered me. Adlon did a fantastic job with what she had to work with, but Bobby should have had a man voice him. I know they wanted Adlon still on King of the Hill but it's kind of disappointing they couldn't come up with much. She could have played Boomhauer's stepkid, Gracie, Willow, etc. but other actors were cast instead. It's pretty bad with GH has a deeper voice than Bobby.

>>149724983God she's annoying now even when she's engaging in sexual interest towards the main character. Why is she so fucking off in this revival?
>>149724927I actually liked Peggy more because she's shamelessly self-aggrandizing and she owns it. Before she reminded me too much of myself and how I try to be not-the-worst or out of my element when I was totally out of my depth. She's learned. I haven't, but that's a me problem.
>>149724999Dang it Bobby.
>>149725011Probably because she's living with the pressure of living as an Asian American daughter who is coming into adulthood. Pressure doesn't let up just cause your tigermom doesn't have 100% control of your life anymore.
So when she lets go, she REALLY lets go.

>>149725094Samoas was always a dumb name to start with. It tells you nothing about the cookie, much less if you know absolutely nothing about Samoa itself
>>149724999I read up on his stuff.
There seema to be plenty of witnesses in his last couple of years of life that said Ross was no saint.
The police was called on him 72 times in the last year of his life.
In all honesty it sounds like Ross was a nutcase.
It sounds like he was the victim when he died. But it sounds like he behaved like a total nutbar in his neighborhood well before his house burned down.
He probably was discriminated against, but it sounds like he behaved badly, and people decided to be assholes back to him.
Like a black guy who acts like a nigger, so people start calling him a nigger. Or a gay guy who acts annoying or obnoxious, so people start calling him a fag.

>>149714714 (OP)>he simple fact that this is a reboot where the male lead isn't ritualistically humiliated puts it ahead of most other modern reboots.Give it til season 2.
This season is cursed though.
Johnny Hardwick
Jonathan Ross
Chuck Mangione
All these men were alive before they started making this damn season and they were dead by the time it aired.
Also Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty were alive when the show ended and they were dead before it was revived.
Just saying
>>149725128I think it was implied with how Chane was all "Don't bother me with your problems, but I'll still have sex if you want it". He has the swagger of an Asian firstborn who think they're hot shit.
>>149725220you will live to see people older than you die.
>>149725091Honestly I think it sucks that the show is handling her like this now. One of the reasons I liked Connie to begin with in the original show is that they acknowledged that she's an asian daughter with high expectations and that she's really smart, but they never got annoying about it. Now they're just doing the generic "she can finally be herself away from her shitty parents! she's a bit of a crazy adult right now!" crap. Hell they already did some stories like that before like her wanting to play bluegrass and it wasn't some obnoxious rebellion thing that made her annoying, it was endearing (until Hank being pushy, he was the one I didn't like the writing of at times in it, not Connie.) Her sneaking out to go do it was an interesting storyline. No now we just have "I'm gonna try ethical nonmonogomy" "That's slut shaming!" "I wanna do WEIRD things to you!!" and it's tiresome. This all sounds like some live action drama for women.
All the stuff I appreciated about this show not doing, they do it now.
>>149725207I did, which is how I came to my conclusion that this is Connie letting go. You're disagreeing with me tells me I missed something, so I'm asking you.
>>149725177I don't know. If you get the cops called on you 72 times, I'm more inclined to believe Ross came home to check his mail, started shit, and got shot than Ross came home to check his mail, his homophobic neighbor came out, insulted him and then decided to kill him.
There's also got to be a reason why the show DID NOT invite him to a panel, and for him to grab the mic say some stuff and had to be escorted out.
ITS THE CURRENT YEAR! I find it unlikely people, including the show, discriminated against him for being a bisexual injun.
>>149716770New writers made Dale worse than he usually is with his shenanigans and conspiracies.
>I'm the only white dude in my road crew.
>>149725265>No now we just have "I'm gonna try ethical nonmonogomy" "That's slut shaming!" No see, I interpret this as the sort of loophole you get with kids that want to keep up appearances with their strict ass parents. This feels less like some nu-age rebellion and more like "See we're being good Asian kids and dating each other, get off our backs". There are legit some Asian couples I know where it is an open secret the husband has a side-whore and the marriage was simply to keep up tradition, and the only people who don't know (or at least pretend they don't know) are the parents.
>"I wanna do WEIRD things to you!!"I think that was a combination of fantasy and the post-break up high that I've seen friend go through when their Asian family finally gives up on them. They're going to be depressed as all hell later, but for the first couple of weeks they are riding high, like they just finished their college finals sort of high.
>>149725349>combination of fantasyCombination of fentanyl. Fuck autocorrect.
>>149725265They forgot to keep Connie appealing in the pursuit of depicting modern women's adult lives and their "social struggles." It really bothered me how she clearly admitted to Bobby that she liked being with Chane in their relationship structure because it gave her what she wanted with no strings attached, but then at the end of that one episode she lashes out at Chane for... acting like a boyfriend because it benefited him impressing his parents. Bitch, you were selfish too. You were both intentionally just doing things in the relationship to benefit yourself because that's what that structure is for, all he wanted to do was show she's someone he was in a relationship with, which is supposed to be true. Why does only the guy get the shaft, then devolve him into a blubbering "pretends to care about progressive values" strawman talking about how him having to talk to her about her problems "wasn't consensual, i dont feel safe." It's so forced, it's like people can only write shit like this now.
Did the original have blatant sex jokes?
I know Cotton dropped them 90% of the tome, but sometimes they kinda feel out of place because I remember they were more subtle or spicy rather then dude sex lmao.
>>149725419It felt like the joke cuts to Hank having fucked Peggy in the soccer episode were off because he looked TOO satisfied, with his arms up like that. It felt like a typical way of writing a husband and wife in that scenario instead of Hank. Idk watching all of these episodes, including the first one by Judge, only felt like it made any sense watching as if it was fanfiction. Otherwise everyone just feels weird.
>>149725419Could be the original seasons were from a time sex was talked about more tastefully and straight up saying you fucked was seen as uncouth or bold(depending on audience) whereas now the norm is to just declare whose wookie pie your sneezing up with dick snot
