Why was Cartoon Network so weird in 2011?

Either Level Up or Mad.
Level up is my guiltiest of pleasures. Mad was throwing shit to the wall, sometimes it stuck and sometimes you just got shit in your face.

Maybe in the us, I'm mexican and I couldn't stand the show, the characters all sounded the same and had very irritating voices.

It never aired here funnily, the same for secret mountain fort awesome, the us reception was so bad they just didn't bother here.

Mad at least tried to be varied with its skits. The jokes didn't always land, but you could feel the effort. Problem Solvers felt like something rejected from Adult Swim, and I can't recall much about the other two.

Say what you want about this era, but it represented a time when Cartoon Network was experimental and willing to try new things, Adventure Time, the show that kickstarted the beanmouth and story-driven shows trend, was made cause CN wanted to see something new, and, ironically, now beanmouth has become what everyone is tired of, cause now CN and other networks keep trying to replicate the success of it, they aren’t trying to experiment and take risks like they did back then, they’re trying to hope that their new show becomes like their old show. Honestly I miss this era, absolute garbage like The Problem Solverz was born out of taking risks, modern day garbage like Tig n Seek sucks cause of how bland and generic is, it doesn’t mesmerize me for how terrible it is, it just makes me feel dead inside.

Paper Rad was cool and all but Problem Solverz had weak writing. I think if it stayed an adult swim show it would have been way more popular.
Mad and Robotomy were both fine. I guess i'd bring back robotomy

>and willing to try new things,
Their way "Trying new things" by experimenting with new ways to cut costs on animation.
Making reality TV or live action kids shows on a channel called CARTOON NETWORK isn't risky. Creating a show that looks like it was made entirely of simple shapes that even the intern can't fuck up isn't avant garde.
It's stupid and cheap. Copying Adult Swims format but for children isn't original.

The whole period was a lazy cash out that deserved every bit of criticism it received.

Problem Solverz probably wouldn’t have been as hated if it aired on Adult Swim like originally planned, that network is known for its unorthodox artstyles, if it could make 12 Oz. Mouse, a show that looks like it was drawn by a 4 year old, work, than it can make a show that literally hurts to watch work. The AS pilot also was a lot better writing wise.

The Problem Solverz took a lot of influence form neon pop art, Paper Rad was very well liked back in the day, but it just wasn’t made for a kids show.

He's wrong though.
Problem Solvers wasn't the result of taking risks, it was the result of cutting corners.
There are a lot of valid reasons why regular show went on to succeed where problem solverz failed, and it has everything to do with the fact problem solverz had no real talent or effort backing it.

The magazines were funnier because there was a lot more sardonic commentary on the shows they liked and popular culture in general. That god-awful show was unfunny joke after unfunny joke mixed in with flat references and "hidden" adult humor. I was a kid when it was on (inb4 newfag) and I could tell then it was shit

CN's entire MO before Adventure Time came out was being the 3rd place arthouse channel where the sell was that you had a lower budget but more creative freedom.
Creative sensibilities in 2011 were just like that.
