What made Amphibia so much more successful than The Owl House? Was it just the gays?
Anonymous No.149780021 >>149782701
Well for one, Amphibia was just better in terms of writing and structure. In addition, Braly just generally seems a little more willing to play ball with Disney. He doesn't seem as though he needs to feel like he's making a statement or producing high art. He's just happy to be there.

What is it about The Owl House that made you seethe so much and what is it about Amphibia that you use it as a comparison point even though you don't care about it?

Well, Disney who claims to be pro LGBT killed Owl House because they were in fact not pro LGBT. It's really that simple.

Owl House promised a lot out the gate and failed to deliver. Amphibia really didn't promise much of anything and even though it had problems, it went places people weren't expecting. Basically the classic contrast of "expecting a lot and not getting what you want" versus "expecting nothing and because it turns out decent it seems that much better".

Business wise Owlhouse was pushed to be a big show and went over budget and didn’t get the views they were hoping for with season 1. Amphibia season 1 went under budget and made more views than they were expecting. Matt ask so seemed to be less vocal against Disney and easier to work with even after the true colors incident. I remeber he made a tweet upset but he himself removed it. Like it or not behind the scenes, Matt was just more willing to play ball than Dana. Like Don’t forget Owlhouse could’ve gotten a book but it didn’t because Dana said no saying it wasn’t worth it for the price they pitched. I dunno if she did t belive it could generate money or was just bad at negotiations. Even if it was a little cheep I think she should’ve made it and left it open ending for a sequel so if it sold well enough she’d have a better hand for negotiating a sequel and for the fans since there’s a fanbase for the Owlhouse they’d be pleased as punch about it. Matt did make his book and it became a great seller and he’s getting a graphic novel as well. That’s the craziest thing to me honestly, it feels like Dana just dosen’t like her fans.

Amphibia is undeniably the best-written modern Disney kino. Owl House, on the other hand, is a terribly written faggot show made for trannies and third-worlders. Simple as.

Owl House got cucked hard by Disney and the staff weren't up for the taste of actually making the lemons they got something good. So in the end they got a show that was in development hell and was only popular with a niche crowd so they just took it out back and shot it.

No, Matt simply wants to keep making Amphibia stuff while Dana just wants to move on and has no desire to work with Disney anymore.

I know this is Tribe bait, but here an honest observation

I think the binge schedule of the first season of Amphibia really helped it gain fandom momentum. The whole first season was dumped in a month so major plot episodes came fast and the audience didn't need to wade through weekly filler episodes. Amphibia having a better realized plot and stronger themes in the beginning also helped

Unironically this, how many comics or cartoons are there about being transported into a world ruled by sapient amphibians based on the American South mixed with European folklore? Compare that to the utter glut of "girl goes to magical school" shows.

Hadn't seen TOH until very recently, watched the first five or so episodes. It's fun and I can see the potentential but judging from what I've seen over here in the internet the show probably devolved into shipping wars and "muh representayshun" and that sort of thing really only appeals to fujo-types which isn't the people Disney channel is meant for.

imo the amphibia characters (mostly the human ones although the animal characters are also great and they have a good amount of depth too) feel way more complex and interesting than the characters in toh. Toh characters outside of Eda feel pretty flat, boring and stereotypical and I honestly think no one would’ve gave a shit about the show if it wasn’t for lumity.

Have only seen the first few episodes so I was just guessing that was what the show turned into, Korra and Star vs being good examples of shows derailed by that fandom type stuff (also that Korra was already kind of bland from the start).

Pretty sure they killed the owl house because the creator was so toxic they literally had to ban her from producer meetings (her own words, not theirs) and the show was as expensive as it was unpopular so they plummeted the budget for it and wrapped it up to get rid of the creator (compare season 1 to season 3).

Compare the production team who made Amphibia vs TOH. Dana had plenty of experience in the industry, but TOH was her first time writing scripts and nearly all of the crew who worked on TOH were fresh out of college and had limited experience working on anything else. This was everyone's very first professional project, and you can tell by how the writing suffers for it. Cartoons made from the latter half of the 2000s and onwards (before streaming) usually excel when they have 2-3 writers an episode. Not only was Dana new to writing scripts, but Owl House had 3-4 writers per episode on average. Too many scriptwriters on a average sized show or movie will kill any sense of emotional "flow" and effective story focus as things will feel like they're checking off boxes or lacking tension.

Isn't some famous Mangaka friends with Dana? The guy from Witch Hat Attelier I think. Also, I think I saw people making a big deal on some Owlhouse show at Disneyland Tokyo. Years ago but still. Also the skull doggy guy wearing a cheerleader outfit, that was sold as a plushie and was kind of popular in the Disney stores in Japan.

Yeah. Amphibia, the world of Amphibia, is just COOLER than the Boiling Isles, and is one of the cooler settings Disney has ever put out, IMO.

The frogs, toads, and newts as hobbits, dwarves, and elves, the strange customs and folklore, how grim and actually disturbing some of the lore of the setting is, the fact that animals in our world that are predators of amphibians and reptiles got ported into this world as huge, terrifying monsters... it's just a neat setting.

Not to mention it leans into a little bit of that Dark Souls vibe where you feel like it's a world that's past its peak, shown with the ancient tech and crumbling ruins lying around, and the fact that its capital city is crumbling and the Newts themselves are kind of a decaying and ossified upper class.

It's just cool. The setting is cool. And at least Anne and Sasha are fun characters let loose in this cool setting. Who wouldn't love it?
