Into the Spider-Verse is the only time they got it right
No unnecessary references, no Spider-Man army, just two Spider-Men at vastly different points in their lives helping each other out of their respective ruts - a classic buddy cop story that also serves as a proper exploration of what being Spider-Man is about.
It's amazing how this is the only time where the Spider-Verse concept has ever justified itself despite the amount of times it's been attempted in both comics and film.

Remember when they had literally everyone come out and suck Miles off in Ultimate? Reviving Peter for him to kneel and suck Miles's toes at being the BETTER Spider-Man?
That little motherfucker can't do shit on his own. He always needs Peter or Gwen around for anyone to even give a fuck about that little mystery meat mutt.

Spider-verse is one the instances where they got it the worst. The whole movie just exists to hammer Miles down everyone's throats while grossly misunderstanding Stan's "anyone could have been Spider-man." quote.

I don't really see how that's true at all.
Unlike other depictions of Miles here he's pretty incompetent and shit for most of the movie and easily overpowered by everyone else - yeah he gets his shit together eventually but that's what the whole movie is building towards and it feels earned after all he goes through.
It's not like he's constantly showing everyone up, he's just another Spider-Man on equal footing with the others by the end.

the literal coda of the movie ends on him saying ANYBODY CAN YOU CAN WEAR THE MASK! It's absolute self indulgence. And even if he's not overpowered the fact that he needs everyone to tell him how great he is because he just is defeats the premise.

The movie's just about having the confidence to do what you want to do even in the face of immense screw ups and consequences.
That's the whole point of the leap of faith thing, Miles spends the entire movie wallowing in self doubt worrying about not being good enough even before he's bitten, it's only when he lets go of them that he actually gets to be Spider-Man proper.
It's not that anyone can wear the mask, it's that anyone can achieve what they want to achieve if they cast aside self-doubt.
This is the only reason Miles is able to best Peter at the end, he took the leap of faith while Pete's still unsure about going back to MJ.

Also most of the movie is spent with the characters talking about how shit Miles is and how he's not ready to be Spider-Man, literally the only people who believe in him are Peter and his dad, I really don't see what the issue you have with the movie is.

Oh, I think you can guess...
Most /co/tards just check the grievance sheet to see what to say about any given media anyway.
The main point is that almost all other versions of Miles suck, but Spider-Verse is a great story. Miles isn't automatically great (although he is a basically a good kid like Peter Classic). There's no shitting on Peter Classic. Peter B. is hyper-competent, honorable, lovable, funny, and about to get his shit back together too. He's just Spider-Man...knocked down but ready to get back up again to face the challenge.
The message isn't "move over whitey, I'm in charge now", it's "hey, you did great work in your day...that is awesome and we all respect that, but maybe you need a minute for yourself to work shit out? We can work together."

Yep, Miles is a classic hedonist, every story of his is about basking in the glory of vigilantism rather than helping. No wonder the audience is mostly women.

>ANYBODY CAN YOU CAN WEAR THE MASK!

It's actually kinda true. The point of that message is that doesn't really matter if Spider-Man is a cartoon pig or an anime girl or a gritty film noir detective or even a black teen with exaggerated swagger, as long as they're upholding the core values of the mantle. And the whole point of the Spider-Society in the second film is that Miguel is pissing all over everything that makes the mantle what it is.

No. The point is that someone from a lower place in life, through his own LEARNED sense of responsibility and nobility rose to become a hero. What CORE VALUES? Spider-man is who is was because of the kind of person Peter became.

you're right and /co/ will seethe over you being right, remember that. Miles works when he's in his own universe away from Peter and this movie having an AU Peter mentor him before going solo is a great concept by the writers. this movie does in 2 hours what comic writers couldn't in 7 years, making Miles a good and lovable protagonist

Does he? Do you really think any of his own original Bendis series worked at all? Because I remember the early days of us bitching up a storm about him not even having his own shooters.
