It got popular online around dominantly queer spaces with a lot of underaged user and namely used in a lot of furry spaces as one of those cutesy and quirky tongue in cheek memes in the same way as femboys used to be. This caused a firestorm with places like the furry community where a good portion of the male gay scene argued the meme was just a friendly and wholesome expression of gayness online and that the character was just a cute chibi fursona instead of being explicitly a young boy fursona.

Then the server boykisser discord server leaks happened and it turned out gay furrys WERE using it to get minors to engage with them sexually and there was a massive grooming pipeline. It was a dog whistle for men who wanted to kiss actual boys. To this day you still get defenders over the meme and how it is only a few bad actors but it is mostly bullshit.

Anyhow, some spoiler talk regarding the people who claimed Diane Foxington is too "girl-boss" in these movies: I think the sequel kind of addresses some of that, even if it was not intentional. She basically loses everything and even needs to be saved by Mr. Wolf, in more ways that one. She's a better fighter than him but the first movie already established that she's a master martial artist and Wolf is basically just a street brawler at best, but that's neither here nor there. Because she loses everything, she basically has to start from square one on equal footing with the other characters, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how her dynamic with the team has changed in the third movie, especially considering her romance with Mr. Wolf.

I liked that Wolf is her training partner in the sequel, too. It's perfectly in line with Diane's helpful nature, shows that she sees Wolf as equal with her, and on top of that opened the door for some additional romantic tension.

Don't get me wrong anon. It does suck how there is now a level of baggage floating around when it comes to that style of art but what has been done has been done. There are ways artists can minimize sillycat resemblance and in this case they could have shaded the ears or added shaded patches or spots to the kid audience here and there. But this is a case where I think they were at LEAST partially inspired by sillycat for the child characters at the very minimum.

Never was bothered but in BG1 she was the brains and the brawns. So could be seen as a bit much but in this one she's much more just a competent thief but wolf is the con man. Which I think is good it gives everyone a chance to show off how they do it differently.

Diane was cool though so it was fine, she's more of a solo build thief so she had to do most jobs alone. So it made her out to be super competent compared to wolf who usually gets away without needing to fight as he literally does everything to avoid the confrontation.
